Welcome to the University of Chicago! Founded in 1890 through a gift from John D. Rockefeller, the University of Chicago is an intellectual destination and one of the world's premier academic institutions for inquiry, education, and discovery. UChicago draws inspired students and scholars to our Hyde Park and international campuses, placing us at the nexus of ideas that challenge and change the world. Beyond scholarly endeavors, visitors can tour architecture from neo-Gothic to contemporary, meander through lush botanic gardens, experience a broad array of visual performing arts, bike along the historic Midway Plaisance, and discover many other cultural treasures both on campus and off. Hyde Park Community The main University campus is situated just seven miles south of downtown Chicago in the vibrant Hyde Park neighborhood-a tight-knit, diverse community bursting with coffee shops, restaurants, and bookstores. The newly revitalized 53rd Street corridor has become an epicenter for dining, shopping, and entertainment. Hyde Park is also the heart of Museum Campus South, a consortium of museums and cultural institutions on Chicago's Culture Coast including the DuSable Museum of African American History, Museum of Science and Industry, Frank Lloyd Wright's Frederick C. Robie House, the Renaissance Society, and the UChicago's own Smart Museum of Art, Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, and the Oriental Institute Museum. UChicago's Global Impact The University is shaped and inspired by the city of Chicago. Through growing partnerships with neighbors, UChicago is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and economic development of the South Side-and to the global reach of its vibrant city. In all we do, we are driven to dig deeper, push further, and ask bigger questions-and to contribute and expand our knowledge to enrich human life.

My older brother went here for his undergrad degree and I went here to attend a summer program for high school students back when I was in high school. It's always been a great school and continues to be at the top of its class. The architecture is great as well.

Please google the history of the University of Chicago. It is quite impressive.. The U of C was the founder of the Big 10, and then dropped out. Since 1892 the U of C has been gender and racial neutral .

My daughter had a camp here so I had to drive up to the school daily. University of Chicago is a great site to explore on a warm day.

Lots of old interesting buildings. School was out but we walked all around campus. Started to snow which was great coming for Los Angeles. Student working the info desk was very kind. Physics and Math major.

Visited for a tour over 20 years ago, and decided to stay for 4 years. Very impressive exterior facade with Gothic buildings reminiscent of some of the East coast Ivies. Interior furnishings somewhat hit and miss, as is front desk staff. Some dorms could probably use an update. In general the more conveniently located living quarters are a bit more... More

The university's campus is stunning. The gothic architecture is second to none. The grounds are very well maintained and the university is the home to many important achievements in the last century. Unfortunately, getting to the university isn't particularly easy. Visitors with a car will have no problem, but relying on public transit isn't worth it.

UoC has a unique campus in an architecturally beautiful city. While there are sketchy parts of Hyde Park, a walk through the campus does impress. The school brings together the best and brightest and gives them a peaceful place to teach and learn. I was there in September during an unbelievably beautiful day.

Beautiful campus that immediately announces its cerebral lineage. Buildings and grounds are stately and the students are wonderfully quirky.
