The Willie Dixon Blues Heaven Museum packs a lot of important historical information into a mid sized building, that was once the Chess Record recording studio. The Dixon family runs it, and passionately. Willie Dixon's grandson was at the museum, and had some great stories to tell us, and some insight into being a family member, with the responsibility of... More

This is the site of the Chess Studios where Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Chuck Berry, and a host of other Chicago blues (and rock) musicians recorded throughout the 50s, 60s, 70s, The address is the same as the Rolling Stones song about the place, 2120 S. Michigan Ave. and yes, this is where the Stones held their first Chicago press... More

As a blues fan, I made the pilgrimage to the original Chess Studios where Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Chuck Berry and Willie Dixon created their wonderful music. Willie Dixon's grandson gave a great tour, was very friendly and informative and let us visitors hang around and explore the studio. A MUST for a music fan

I wish I could give this a 5, but I can't because it was pretty boring. I wish I could give it a 5 because it is an educational foundation that does good work. But 2120 S. Michigan itself. Well, I went because it was only 1 L stop away from my hotel, so minimal effort was involved on my... More

This was a hidden gem in Chicago. I've visited the city many times and I've seen the movie about Chess Records (Cadillac Records) but I had no idea this was here or the inspiration for the movie. The guided tour was excellent and the guide (Willie Dixon's grandson) was full of great stories. The hours are limited and the website... More

In a city know for inventing urban Blues, this is the best place to start to learn about Chicago's Urban Blues. Lots of posters, photographs, memorabilia, that wants to be read and thought about. It's from Chicago that the blues, their sound and attitude spread to England and Hamburg and then conquered the world. This is the source.

This place has a lot of history. Jus the best musicians of Blues & Rock n' Roll recorded here (Muddy Waters, Howling' Wolf, Chuck Berry, The Rolling Stones, and so on). I recommend you before your visit, watch the movie "Cadillac Records". The shop is nice and you can find interesting souvenirs.

The 'Foundation', is housed in the old Chess Records Studio where Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy, Chuck Berry, Little Walter, Muddy Waters and Aretha Franklin - to name just a few - recorded. Not to mention, in more recent times, the Rolling Stones, Paul Rogers and Eric Clapton. It was a must-see on our visit to Chicago, but was... More

A fantastic tour of this historic recording studio the outputs of which helped shape popular music in a variety of forms for many decades. Keith Dixon gives a wonderful tour of the building and its history bringing to life what has happened there and linking this to how the Foundation continues to support musicians today. If you have any interest... More
