The water was absolutely amazing and it was so peaceful to just sit and enjoy. Lots of people walking. Swimming areas available. Police on site. However the boat house on the beach was closed for the season and therefore no bathrooms were available. Cant beat...More

For those who love the beach this is a nice place. Not too much to do except sit on the sands or hang out for informal dining. Great city views from here. I wouldn't spend more that 30 mins to 1 hour here except you...More

North Avenue Beach is a great recreation area in Chicago. In the summer it is alive with beach volleyball and sunbathers as well as hikers, bikers, etc. on the bike trail that flanks the beach area.

I have to say I was very surprised to find a beach in Chicago right on the edge of the lake. The beach is super clean and was not super busy beyond the people using the lakefront trail. Nice place to visit.

This is a great place to hang out on a hot summer day. It can get very crowded quickly though. Try to get there earlier to get a bigger spot on the sand. It's also a good idea to go in groups and take turns...More

North Ave or Oak Street for older (late 40's) friends? I'm bringing my girlfriend who is visiting from Canada to a Chicago beach... first time visitor. I haven't been in years and years. We'regoing on a Saturday and really just want to stay a few hours, perhaps get some food or snacks and drinks, enjoy the views and water. Which beach do you suggest? I know there's a lot of younger crowd at North Ave so we don't want to look out of place. we don't mind noise and fun, but we also want a relaxing time at the same time . Just want to show her what it's all about.
