We went here as Chicago had opened up all their venues for the public during one week. Didn't have any high expectations but ended up to be one of our favourites. Its quite off, but worth it. A truly beautiful space.

JMJ Sorry to say I've missed this gem! How could I have missed this previously! Chicago Open House invites everyone to experience 200 of Chicago's finest architectural treasures and I noticed this on the list this week-end. Parking is always limited in this neighborhood so prepare some extra time for that. Stunning is just a mild compliment to this magnificent... More

This splendid building can pass you by. Wonderful exterior guarded by two fantastic bronze elks and inside is a vision to behold! The building is based on 'The Pantheon' and is laden with fantastic coloured marble from all around the world plus wonderful murals and 'Elk' artefacts. So very glad I took time to visit this delightful building.

Decided to stop by after Lincoln Park zoo trip. Free/donations in afternoons. The reception room has 2 massive oak tables we were told weigh 1,000 pounds each. They were pushed together to create a dining room scene for the movie Richie Rich which started Macaulay Culkin. The adjoining domed room was built for acoustics and everyone should take a turn... The Elks National Veterans Memorial honors all Veterans in World War I and all subsequent wars. The building was designed by Egerton Swartwout of New York and built in the early 1920s as a large E, for Elks, of course. The sculptural frieze to the south is the Triumphs of Peace, to the north is the Triumphs of War, both... More

I was surprised who beautiful it is inside. A lot of murals, moldings, columns and ornate ceilings. It is one of the city's lesser-known architectural treasures, this domed neoclassical structure was built in 1926 by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, a national fraternal order founded 1868, as a tribute to its members who perished in World War I.... There was nothing to dislike and plenty to like. The building alone is worth the visit but when you add the extraordinarily beautiful interior and the well informed staff, it is a must see site. You won't be disappointed if you enjoy architecture, art, and history.

Enjoyed seeing the beautiful rotunda and grand reception room. There was so much to look at everywhere you turned. It is open Monday - Saturday 1 to 4. We had the pleasure of visiting it during the yearly Open House Chicago event in October - so the entire facility was open for our exploration. Not sure how much you can... More

On many visits to Chicago we have passed by this place and did not go in. This time we were walking by and saw that it was opened noon-4:00PM, so we went in. The place is amazing. The place was built to honor war veterans from WW1, but now honors all veterans. Being both a veteran and an Elk (not... More
