This wide swath of sandy beach sprawls along Lake Michigan just a block off the Northern start of the Magnificent Mile. To access it, I walked through a tunnel under North Lake Shore Drive close to where Oak Street becomes the one-block East Shore Drive....More

We stayed 2 blocks from here. It has a sandy beach for laying out, playing volleyball, people swimming. Clean and safe. Police on bikes patrol it.

A beach in a large metropolitan city!. Good place for children to swim. There are lifeguards. This is also the location for the annual free Air & Water Show.

Great beach to walk along. Seems like about 5 m all together. The water does not warm until August, so most swimmers have wet suits on in July.

Lots of people jogging, biking, and playing volleyball. Best skyline view is from the waters of Lake Michigan. Massages are offered on the soft white beach. Minutes from high end fashion boutiques.

It really depends on what time you come, the earlier the better. Also, it gets very crowded for the Air & Water Show.
