We were there on a Saturday evening and by chance stayed during the night hour that there were fireworks! The view is simply fantastic with many boats on the lake. So if you are planning to visit Navy Pier in the summer season, you might want to consider checking firework schedule and enjoy the night view!

Very boring place...no outdoor activities as there are no trees or sun protection. No outdoor restaurants and not much to do.

My wife and I came here to check out the pier, do some shopping and check out the overall vibe. There are a lot of shops in Navy Pier, as well as food options as well, so come here hungry!

We got there early in the morning, so the crowds weren't there yet, but once we got back from our boat tour and had lunch in the main building, it was getting busy.

For people with children, there is a children's museum in Navy Pier for them to stay busy with.

If you are in Chicago, this is 100% a must do and see.

Just about everything said you need to see Navy Pier for a complete visit to Chicago. I knew it had the Centennial Wheel, but I really did not know much else. Let me say we had an incredible evening with so much to do.

One of the great things Chicago did was to envisioned a much more recreational and residential waterfront as opposed to other Great Lake cities like Cleveland. With an industrial waterfront further to the south, Chicago does not really have a place for vessels in the downtown Loop area, except Navy Pier.

Historically built for possible passenger and cargo transport, it evolved into more office usage as the Navy actual user for training in WWII. Afterwards it was part of the University of Chicago and then underutilized until the late 1990s. Then there was a redevelopment idea for an entertainment destination with museum, theater, attractions and rides, along with food and hospitality.

We visited to see what was there and we loved our ride on the Centennial Wheel. However, we were totally unprepared for the number of people we saw only to realize Wednesdays are fireworks. So we stayed and enjoyed views of the city changing from sunset to night as well as fireworks over the lake. Again it was a fun evening. I am so glad we made the visit.

During the summer, there is a fireworks show on Wednesday and Saturday nights. The show was good and the view of the skyline was very nice. There were SO many people. Due to the popularity of the pier and the fireworks, traffic was horrendous, and there were long wait times for nearly all restaurants. Plan ahead and go early.

On the other hand, there is a lot to do! I noticed multiple restaurants, shops, several places to get souvenirs, and a children’s museum. Navy Pier has a good website that lists all of the restaurants, shops, and attractions.

The ferris wheel is a bit overpriced for the few spins around that you get but a good way to see Chicago shoreline on a clear day. All other rides were not operating the Friday afternoon that we went???? Not sure why so you may want to check before going.

It was hot in June; the roof-top lounge at the water-front end of the pier had opened the doors and turned off the air conditioning. That was a mistake.

The pier had a little something for everyone in our family. Don’t miss rainbow ice cream and the Ferris wheel. Lots of places to board boat tours and some fun shops for souvenirs. A short walk away there were fountains for the kids to run through and a beach where they city glows off the water at night. Suggest Lyft or walking depending on how close you are staying. Parking is expensive everywhere you go in Chicago!
