We had some time to kill, and decided to give this little place a try. the ski history and even the local history is limited, but the refugee quilt display with the stories of the quilt makers was very nice.

Veery nicely laid out history of European settlement in the area, with emphasis on its the importance of mining and railroads. Most interesting in building #1 is the role RR magnate Averill Harriman hadd in developing Sn Valley, and the effective use of Hollywood stars to atract attention to the first planned ski resort in the US. Building #2 has... More

The museum has an interesting display of Ernest Hemingway's time in Sun Valley and also of the early history of the valley. Best of all, it's free. Good way to spend a couple of hours if the weather is bad.

The curator is very knowledgeable and interesting and tells you a lot about the history of the area. But it wasn't Idaho potato's I was here to learn about a long history of sheep herding. Twenty years ago the Trailing of the Sheep Festival was born in southern Idaho's Wood River Valley. The festival name pays homage to the annual... More

I was looking forward to my visit, but unfortunately they have moved away from the ski aspect and it was all about local history. Not bad, but also not appreciably different than any other small town Idaho museum except that there is a small area dedicated to the Sun Valley Resort. It's worth a visit if you are in town, but... Fascinating collection which skillfully takes you through the history of Sun Valley. The engaging curator walked us through the museum and shared personal insight. Even if you don't like "museums", you will be enriched by a visit to this one of a kind gem.

Hit this museum up to learn more about the area, very fun and interesting. The man who runs the museum is very informative and friendly.

Valley, industry, railroad and skiing history. We spent over an hour enjoying the displays, which was great for an afternoon off of skiing!

In the center of town. The museum is located in refreshed forest ranger buildings. A great local history. The schedule of when it is open varies. I would try to call ahead and see but this is worth a walk through. I stumbled into it being open.
