Opening its doors in 1927, the Egyptian theater it is the oldest theater in Boise. It was lavishly restored in 1999, and is a beautiful theater to visit. It has an interesting lineup of events, live shows and movies. Its one of my favorite places to go in downtown Boise. It’s a classic low-key venue with a bit of wear around the edges, but you should expect that because it has been around for almost 100 years! You can fuss about this and that but its a charmer with its beautiful auditorium. It’s right downtown surrounded by places to eat. So for a great evening out, we select somewhere to dine and then walk a block to catch an event at the Egyptian.

Visiting Boise, I saw a presentation (I'll Push you) at the Egyptian Theater and what a spectacular building. The exterior detail was exquisite, very art deco, well maintained and eye-catching. The interior was immaculate and luxurious, red velvet everywhere, chairs so soft you wanted to sleep in them and the stage is set so there is no bad seat in the house.

Cocktails were served quickly at the bar.

What a magnificent example of history, art and luxury.

They don't make 'em like this any more and that's a shame.

The Egyptian Theatre is truly a Boise icon, and one that keeps on giving to the community by hosting a wide range of movies.

My wife and I attended the Aimee Mann concert at the Egyptian. It is without a doubt the most beautiful venue that I have ever been blessed to enjoy a brilliant musician. I was on M-row and still felt like I was close enough to make eye contact with everyone on stage. It is an intimate venue that is perfect for singer-songwriters and those that love them. As one of the great historic theaters of North America, the Egyptian is a priceless artifact of that period in the 20's when movies became the dominant art form. The styling is classic 20's inspired by the finding of King Tut's tomb by Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon in 1922. It is in excellent condition; those who restored it should be awarded and honored. Lastly, let me just say the popcorn and the soda were reasonably priced and tasty. We will be seeing more events here.

We went to an open seating event in which the first two rows were open seating -- at the price of $117 a seat. The Punch Brothers. We showed up after the opener and it was intermission. We looked around. There were not too many open seats in the front two rows even though we paid for them -- ok. we showed up late. There were people in the seats -- or they HAD MARKED THEIR SEATS with coats, cups etc. we noticed 6 seats totally open on the left hand side, second row. We sat down. OPEN SEATING! we sat there for 20 minutes when 2 guys showed up -- "Hey these are our seats"" I responded -- Hey OPEN SEATING. management --- MANAGEMENT kicked us out -- but gave us the option of one seat on an aisle and a "chair" in the handicapped aisle. Bad view. So -- if you claim your seat ... and are loud and obnoxious enough -- "OPEN SEATING!" --

A beautiful theater. It is great to see that it has been restores/maintained. The architecture is so different from any other theater I've ever seen. Seat are comfortable. A great place to attend a performance.

We attended a screening of a documentary film, "Bravo."

The theatre had a nice lobby with refreshments. The seats in the balcony were comfortable with sufficient rise to allow full view of the screen from the center aisle and one off center.

The decorations are very interesting. It is quite unique.

Sat in the orchestra seating area, which offers comfortable seats, but they are all on the same level. We had no trouble seeing the stage and the performer. Each seat has a built-in drink/cup holder, which I began to be an annoyance toward the end of the evening because my forearm rested on it partially. The sound and lighting for our performance, a one-man show, were fine if a bit loud. The Egyptian motif is interesting. A nice venue for a smaller show.

I can imagine the Egyptian being the coolest place in town in its heyday. It's unquestionably the oddest theatre that you'd expect to find in Boise, ID, but definitely the coolest. Is it the nicest one? No. But its decor is a throwback to when going to the movies was cool and something to get dolled up for.

Movies are shown periodically at the Egyotian by Boise Classic Movies, although they also host concerts and performances. It's a single large theatre with lots of seating options. I like to sit in the upper section just because it's different.

There are some concessions offered, which I believe are cash only. It's not the tastiest popcorn. But you don't come here for the snacks.
