We went after Christmas while the Wreaths Across America were still on the graves. It makes the place one of great rememberance and peacefull even though many buried there gave their life for freedom by fighting.

The Marietta National Cemetery is a historical and beautiful but somber spot. I am reminded here of Carl Sandburg's poem The Grass as its current peaceful state has no hint of the violence that made it neccessary. Doobie 48 is incorrect in stating that it...More

Take a stroll back 150 years to feel the sacrifices made by soldiers far from home. Most of the gravesites date back to the Civil War, but as this is a National Cemetary, veterans are still able to be buried here.

Many soldiers are buried here from a number of wars going back to the civil war. It is well kept and honorably maintained. There is a lot of history if you take the time to search for it.

Marietta National Cemetery was originally dedicated to the thousands of Union soldiers killed in the nearby battle for Kennesaw Mountain (Confederate casualties were buried in the Marietta Confederate Cemetery just south of Marietta Square).
