Hills & Dales Estate is the historic home and garden of textile magnate Fuller E. Callaway. Located in LaGrange, Georgia. The centerpiece of the estate is a beautiful Georgian-Italian style home built in 1916. Designed by the noted architectural firm of Hentz & Reid it is one of the finest homes built toward the end of the country house era. The home was occupied by two generations of the Callaway family and contains all of the families' original furnishings. Formal gardens surrounding the home and were created by the original owner of the property, Sarah Coleman Ferrell prior to the Civil War. Within the gardens visitors will see many of Sarah's religiously inspired planting including a large planting of the word "God" and her personal motto "God is Love." The extensive formal boxwood garden also feature an herb garden, greenhouse, fountains and garden sculpture. The 35-acre estate, complemented by a Visitor Center containing family artifacts and displays, opened to the public in 2004. In May of 2010 twenty additional rooms on the second and third floor of the home opened for tours.

Found a pamphlet at a hotel and decided to visit. Beautiful home with a knowledgeable docent. Really nice gardens with a Great History. Check for dates if you plan to visit on a Sunday as it is not open all year on Sunday afternoons.

We saw an ad in Southern Living that mentioned Hills and Dales Estate. So we went on their website and set a date ... Frankly we weren't very sure what to expect... What we found in charming LaGrange was shear beauty. The grounds, the gardens, the home, the welcome center, the tour, a pure, fascinating, enjoyable experience. We were fortunate... More

Our group visited this location today. Great visit. First, I am sure that some people may visit this location seasonally but if you are only going once, May is probably the best time but any time would actually be great, just be prepared for the heat. We visited today and it was just absolutely hot. That being said...what a wonderful... More

This lovely home is not just a big house - it a jewel! On our way from Warm Springs to Atlanta and took a short detour. What a well thought out and planned home. Not just a big house or a bunch of marble. A true home that you can hear the grandchildren running around giggling. Most bedrooms have a... More

My friends and I toured the Hills & Dales Estate and gardens recently. What an absolutely beautiful place! The docent was very knowledgeable - down to the last detail. Each day fresh flowers are brought into the rooms, and this gives a very welcoming and warm feeling. I couldn't believe they were able to place a full-size billiard table in... More

What a beautiful place, we had Gerald as our walking tour guide, who was a fountain of information about the wonderful home. It is amazing that this home is as it was when the Callaway family lived there until the death of Mrs. Callaway in 1998. Put it on your bucket list when in south west Georgia, you will not... More

Hills and Dales Estate is a fantastic house and garden tour. The House is true to the Italian Revivalist Style. It is beautifully decorated and furnished with original furniture. The woodworking and moulding are all ornate and exquisite. This is one of the few House tours we have taken that accurately reflects what the house would have looked like when... More

Tucked away in an out of the way corner of Georgia is the beautiful Hills and Dales estate. My local garden club made the trip from a few hundred miles away and it was so worth it! The house, built in 1916, was an amazing sight to see for the architectural and historical significance. The grounds surrounding the home are... More
