We went for Folkston Railwatch 2017 and we saw 46 trains! I film trains for my Youtube channel, RailROL82. We saw the Amtrak Auto Train, Silver Star, Silver Meteor, CSX Coal Trains, Double stack intermodals, BNSF, Auto Rack trains, mixed freight, night trains, and even trains meeting at the Funnel! They have a wooden platform equipped with chairs, a scanner,... More

45 trains per day pass through Folkston. Good for close up viewing, bring a chair, camera and a cool drink. You can watch from the viewing platform and the train station across the tracks

Platform is show signs of ware and tare. There is a donation can there. Please drop a $10 or at least a$5 bill in. Where else can you watch trains that close for any price? Restrooms close by are ok. Chairs and picnic are are are good. Planning on coming back again in few months which will be our third... More

Recently spent some time at the viewing platform in Folkston from April 10th thru the 12th. I like this little town and the local people seem to be very friendly. On this visit the weather was beautiful. 50's at night and around 80 by day. Instead of paying for a hotel I just put a bedroll in the back of... More

We visited the interesting train museum in the quaint, small town of Folkston, GA. recently. It's like going back it time & a train watcher's dream.

Excellent place to watch trains that come out of Florida going north or out of the north going south into Florida!

I don't usually go in for trains, but hubs is a huge fan. He was a little disappointed with the frequency of the trains, but there is no end of other train enthusiasts to talk with and compare notes. The platform is covered, which is nice when it rains. It would also protect you from the hot sun. Not much... More

How many towns do you know that have a platform just for watching trains pass? The town of Folkston has one and it is very convenient to travelers driving down to Florida. It is just over from highway 301 right beside the double tracks that go north and south in this part of Georgia. This is a good Stop to... More

We didn't expect a whole lot but our two-hour round trip would have been a total waste if we had not had such a great lunch. After an hour we wondered if we were in the wrong place because we had not seen a single train. Finally a sole "regular" showed up and told us about a train an hour... More

What else could l possibly say you haven't already seen. While my son is a complete railfan I am new to this. This is our second trip to Folkston for a great time together. What struck me last year and again on this trip is how genuinely friendly the people of Folkston are. Made us feel very much appreciated. We... More
