This is a very historical site and worthy of a memorial and museum and this has been accomplished. The museum is nicely constructed with a period-appearing building with a front porch with rocking chairs and large windows with shutters. The white paint is disturbed by...More

This site marks the place where Jefferson Davis was captured by the Yankees as he and his family were escaping from Richmond, VA trying to get to Florida and then on to Texas. Very informative and interesting 15-20 minute film. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff....More

Appomattox gets all the attention but Jeff Davis was headed to Texas to try and prolong the war when apprehended here by Michigan cavalry, some of which settled 30 years later nine miles away in Fitzgerald. There is a rental facility, small museum, nice walking...More

For a Civil War historian, the great conflict between the North and the South didn't end when Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865. It ended a month later, on May 9, when President Jefferson Davis...More
