Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lookout is down a 7km dirt road, ok for a normal car however some larger potholes forming.
Local drivers with property on this track don’t care for tourists. I had a local aggressively try to run me off the road, then overtaking me on a very narrow part which really ruined the experience for me sadly.
The look out is lovely looking over the gulf.
This is a picnic table here and clearly some people have been up here at night with fires going. I’m sure sunsets would be amazing.

A 7km drive off the Wilmington/Port Augusta road on a well-maintained unsealed road, it is definitely worth the detour! Beautiful views of Spencer Gulf and the fringing hills of the Southern Flinders Ranges. Note that there no facilities (public toilets) there, so plan accordingly!

Fantastic view at the top A lovely surprise when you reach the clearing. The road was a little wet but was able to tow a small van to the top. Some steep spots that were getting a little slipery. Well worth the drive up

A dirt road leads up to the lookout, it's nothing horrible and quite fine for a 2WD. However, I would recommend it in dry weather only.

Amazing views of the gulf, and on a clear day you can see fuhrer out to Iron Knob.
Well worth the drive up, rolling green hills on one side, the blue gulf in the middle, and the arid landscape behind that (towards Iron Knob).

Some info there on what to look for and where and where the site got its name from.

Amazing views on a clear day

Excellent view across the top of the gulf. 7 km of good dirt road. Ok for a normal car but if really wet best wait because there are a couple of spot that would be potentially a bog for a 2wd. Not much else there. Good for picnic.

7km rough track & would be slow going for a standard car, but a 4wd does it without any issues. Can be very windy but he trek is worth the view

Before passing through Hancock’s cutting on the road towards Port Augusta there is a turn off to Hancock’s lookout. A winding wide unmade road - more a track - leads upwards over dry water courses and rocky outcrops to a spectacular lookout overlooking Spencer Gulf to the west and some magic views to the north towards Port Augusta. Worth the drive although not for the faint hearted. Our two wheel drive sedan had no trouble in the dusty dry conditions - we would not have attempted it in the wet. Children would love this side excursion.
