Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

2D 1N - an easy 5 star. I booked last minute seeking somewhere nice to stay that also facilitated the trek. Rudy and Antok were helpful from the very start and their brilliant driver Bayu kindly picked my up from Bangsal Pier (great guy!) The lodge itself was perfect for my needs and the amenities were spot on.
The trek itself was one of the hardest but most amazing things I’ve ever done and I couldn’t recommend doing it with Rudy Trekker more. There were no other guests staying so I had my own private guide and porter. My guide Dhika was the best guide I’ve ever had, and a really likeable guy (also clearly one of the most popular guys on the volcano!) He kept me going and really made my time there. My porter Andy was fantastic and everyone who saw the meals he prepared me was jealous of the food I was given - best chef on the circuit, I ate like a king!
I’ve seen some reviews that complain about price. You cannot put a price on this experience!! Thank you so much Rudy and team

I am 61 and my husband is 64 years of age. We completed the 4 night and 3 day hike. The whole trip was truly amazing from the breathing views to the delicious meals . The guide was excellent and porters were smiling while the carried huge weights on their back. The atmosphere created by these friendly caring people was unforgettable. I would highly recommend this company to all who want to trek. A big thank you to all staff for helping us step by step complete this journey.

I did the 3D2N hike as a solo traveller and was matched with one other solo traveller and we had a really great time :)
Our guide, Agus Bruno, was absolutely wonderful. Fun, funny, cheerful, and very skilled at guiding us - and super helpful when things got tough.
I really recommend going with Rudy Trekkers - they really look after you and it’s worth it. We managed to make the summit after the 2:30 am start but many didn’t and we made it due to our guide Agus - the conditions were crazy, the wind was insanely strong and many didn’t make it but he kept us safe and steady.
The porters were also great and with this company you will have enough food and water for sure. And snacks when needed - wouldn’t have made it to the summit without the Beng Bengs (chocolate bars) that Agus gave me!
It is a really tough hike tho. I am reasonably physically fit and managed it but my legs were destroyed for a couple days after it.The second day is crazy - having made the summit, we went down to the hot springs and crater lake (both great to swim in) and then up again which was the hardest part for me due to exhaustion from the previous day plus summit.
But! A great experience and totally worth not being able to walk up or down stairs without wincing for a couple of days.
Better to go with Rudy than companies that have a worse guide to trekker ratio, and not as much food/water - particularly protein rich food which you really need for recovery. And chocolate bars for those sugar rushes :) they can also lend you all the equipment you need - really recommend bringing very good hiking shoes tho.
Both my trekking partner and I were so glad we picked Rudy’s as we met others who did it for cheaper but just didn’t have as good an experience in terms of enough guides, food, water, equipment, and being looked after well enough to summit.
Thanks to Agus and Rudy!!

I booked onto the 3D2N Rinjani Trek and whilst it is one of the hardest physical challenges I have done (fyi I am reasonably physically fit, experienced hiker and have done other multi day treks before etc) I loved it and would 100% recommend!
I booked on as an individual and joined a group tour (4 others in the group, 2 other solo females and 2 French friends). The organisation process before the trek was pretty strait forward and easy - I messaged Rudy by WhatsApp and paid on arrival. A real bonus is that price includes travel from anyway on Lombok (and transfer at end) and nights accommodation before trek. Senaru is pretty remote and transport on Lombok isn’t as easy compared to Bali so this really reduced transport stress.
The actual trek is hard, and I will be honest I really struggled at times. I probably wasn’t in peak fitness for it and I didn’t have the right shoes - if you are considering this trek make sure you have trail shoes or hiking boots with REALLY GOOD GRIP - as the the volcanic sand / dust is so slippery! My trainers were not good enough but I hadn’t planned on doing this trek when I left the UK so had to use what I had.
Day 1 - you hike up to the crater rim, and there are times it’s pretty exposed and the sun is hot! The majority of it is an steady uphill incline with sections which are pretty steep, but there are several rest stops along the way. Getting the to rim feels such an incredible achievement in itself and the views are fab - though it gets cold pretty quickly once your there!
Day 2 - 2am start to try and reach the summit. First 1.5hours is the hardest incline of my life. The volcanic material means you are literally sliding back with every step you take.
I didn’t reach the summit for sunrise - I stopped and watched a beautiful sunrise from Position 2 (3400m above sea level) only 2 of our group made it to the summit for sunrise and another decided to continue hiking after sunrise to the top.
For this early morning start a porter came with us too as we were a mixed ability group, which meant that Den our guide stayed with me during the hike, but the others weren’t alone.
We regrouped to come down from the top and made it back to camp for a second breakfast.
Based on how our group was feeling (others were recovering from injury / feeling ill) Den made the decision (with our agreement) to adapt our route so we would camp in the valley rather than the other side of the crater rim. Which meant we could all have a quick nap before setting off again, descending to the lake and then onto the thermal springs.
Due a Balinese Hindu festival meaning the intended alternative campsite was very busy we camped near the thermal springs and had a bonfire that night.
Day 3 - leaving camp around 7am we hiked through the valley / jungle. Passing waterfalls and pretty impressive views of the natural beauty around Rinjani, finishing around 2pm (I think!)
We then drove back to Rudy’s and those heading off were able to shower before doing so. I stayed that night at the hotel as was flying from Lombok the next day.
Everything provided on the trek was excellent. Tents, mats and sleeping bags were excellent quality which meant I had pretty decent sleeps.
Food was very good - huge portions, I was never hungry on the trek and we had fresh fruit with nearly every meal. We had plenty of bottled water during the hike and hot drinks / soft drinks at meals.
Our expedition had 5 porters who were fab - in awe of there strength and stamina to carry everything up and down the mountain. Also they were happy to support our group as a mixed ability.
Den our guide was INCREDIBLE and I am personally very grateful to him as I wouldn’t of had the experience I had without him.
He was very supportive and stayed with me when I was struggling on the trek. He was encouraging, personable, knowledgeable of Rinjani and really easy to chat with. I felt very happy and comfortable as he was an experienced guide and helped point out the best way down or up. He supported our entire groups as an when they needed it and was able to adapt based on the groups needs.
He also made sure I had photos when on day 1 I was just trying to get up to the rim and on day 2 I realised I had left my phone in the tent as I sat down to watch the hike.
Honestly couldn’t recommend Den enough!
Tips - there is not enough wet wipes in the world to deal with Rinjani dust and dirt - it gets everywhere, so bring wipes but expect to embrace the dirt!
Make sure you have the right shoes with good grip!
Take more than one extra pair of socks with you - I wished I had another pair due to the dirt!
Thank you Den, Wonderful team of Porters, Rudy and Guest house team.
A fab experience and have already recommended to my family and friends!

First of all: this trip is not for the faint hearted!! Even as a physically fit
Person who loves trekking, this ended me! My legs and body have lost ALL respect for me!
We did the 3D2N trek and we were amongst the few that actually completed it! Most decided to call it quits after completing the summit! Day 2 is a killer!! 02:00 am start to start a 14hour day of walking!! So be prepared for that! On the summit you are battling against 50mph winds on a 60degree gradient. Bitterly cold, exhausting and even most of the guides didn’t summit!
View was incredible however!! After the summit we descended and after several tiring and long hours we hit the hot spring!! NEEDED!!
Have never needed ti be in hot water so badly in my life!! That ended our second day. The final day was a killer only because our legs were screaming but it was a lot more low key, less hours and a little more fun!
The food provided was genuinely incredible and some of the best I have eaten. (Albeit there was far far too much of it!) The porters and our guide were so friendly, helpful and definitely helped us through it! The camp set up was great, comfortable and slept very well!
On returning to civilisation and back tj the hotel we had out well earned hot shower, water, towels and relaxed before being taken to the harbour and sent on our merry and tired way! Couldn’t praise Rudy and his team
Any more!! Truly very helpful, friendly and helped us through it all!

It was amazing!
Night before the trek we could stay in Rudy’s hotel, which was very nice. We were guided by Deno, who was very likeable, very competent, funny and professional. Food was very good too.
We would definitely do it again with Rudy Trekker (and Deno as a guide!), although it was a pretty hard trek. The vieuws were totally worth the struggles.
10/10! Thank you so much!

We went for the 3D2N including summit.
We had a great experience especially with our Guide Deno (Den) and porters (rocket, he is fast)
Everything was well organized and explained. The guide Deno guides you through all days, always open for a chat, tells history stories, is friendly and experienced!
Rudy trekker’s team makes sure you have enough good meals, water and a good night of sleep.
The views, sunsets and sunrises are beautiful.
It’s a challenge for your body but if you are physically fit its definitly doable.
What could be improved is Rudy trekker’s accommodation, this requires a renovation.

We hiked mount Rijani with Rudy Trekker (2D/1N). It was an amazing experience, Wardi was a fantastic guide who coached us to the summit. The food, service and equipment was great. We would recommend booking here.

This 4 day trek was by far the most beautiful experience we have ever had. The views were unbelievable and seemed surreal even. It requires a serious level of fitness and courage to make it to the summit. However, with the assistance of our amazing guide Wardi, and the three porters for whom I have the biggest respect we got through it with comfort and luxury. The meals that were prepared for us were of top notch restaurant level. Wardi our guide is one of the nicest and purest people I have ever met. If you're thinking about doing this trek, stop thinking and just go for it!!! Make sure to ask for Wardi as your guide because this man is the best to have with you during this challenging but heavenly trek. Would definitely recommend Wardi and the company of Rudy trekkers to do this trip.

this trek with rudy trekker was just amaaaaazing! starting with the communication before the trip, the pick up from the pier to the stunning rudy’s guesthouse, the welcoming from antok, rudy himself, the lovely ladies from the reception, the introduction and the really nice room the night before the start. our guide singha, the three porters hamad, strong leg and mr handsome are the nicest guys ever. and i can’t point it out enough, but these guys have one of the hardest jobs in the world. spending more nights in tents than in their own beds, the enormous physical efforts, porters carrying more than 30 kg on their shoulders only in flip-flops or even barefoot, their cooking skills, there’s no difference to a michelin restaurant, they even prepared always only healthy stuff just for me. their cutted fruit plates are simply amazing. every ingredient fresh and delicious! the tent was like a hotel room and the prepared chairs wherever we made breaks were really first class. singha led us to the summit with the perfect pace and was always funny, entertaining and motivating. i know that sounds like a loveletter, but as this was the most challenging experience in my life, i appreciate their enormous efforts to help me get through it and achieve the top of the vulcano soooo much! thank you guys, i’ll never forget these two days, because everytime life sucks i’ll think „you survived mount rinjani, you’ll sail through that ridiculous s***!“ 😁
