What an experience! Our two day/one night trek to mount Ringani crater rim was epic. It was tough (and our legs are still aching two days later) but it was so worth it and incredibly rewarding. The ringani dawn adventures team was excellent - from the guides (Adi and Al), to the porters (excellent food), our driver (Rodi) who took us to catch a boat to Gili air to the gentleman who met us at the beginning and end of the trek. It was so well organised - even to the point that the team was hammering down our tent pegs in the middle of the night on the crater rim during the rather windy parts. Such an incredible adventure with breath-taking views. Would highly recommend

I can't fault Rinjani Dawn Adventures as an organisation. Aef answered all of our pre-hike questions, including providing good recommendations for accommodation in Senaru, and was very prompt in responding to us and making the initial bookings. The charismatic Han (guide) gave us an entertaining pre-departure briefing at the restaurant. Rodi (our driver) picked us up from Bangsal harbour and helped us to organise transport around Lombok - and to Gili Trawangan - after the hike.
The hike itself was very physically challenging, as most of the reviews have mentioned. We did the 2 day 1 night Senaru hike. The terrain towards the summit is basically ash/sand, and given the fair incline most people will need to take it pretty slowly (even without the weight of a full pack). There aren't any guardrails, so you need to be careful when hiking in the dark. RDA supplied hiking poles which were a must. We were lucky to have clear weather at the top to experience the views across to Bali and other islands. Our guide Adi was experienced and conscious of safety at all times. Thanks to Rinjani Dawn Adventures for facilitating a great experience.

We did the hike up to Mt. Rinjani Senaru Crater Rim. Our guide was Adi. It was an amazing experience. Adi was very kind and engaging. He knew the mountain like the back of his hand, always able to tell us what to be on the lookout for. He and the porters made us several delicious meals. Other folks who were with a different tour company were jealous of us! Adi also stayed with me on the descent on day 2 when I was slower than the rest of the pack. Great service. Highly recommend Rinjani Dawn and ask for Adi to be your guide!

Overall rating: 3.5 stars.
We had a great time on Mount Rinjani with some caveats. Here's our experience:
We were two couples doing the 3D, 2N Mount Rinjani experience. Two of us are avid hikers and two are beginner hikers but in excellent shape.
The Good:
- Amazing porters and guide: They were solid throughout the trip.
- Beautiful scenery: The sunrise from the peak was incredible.
- Good equipment and food: Sleeping pads, tents, sleeping bags, and meals were solid.
Trip Insights:
We got a bit bamboozled thinking the 3D2N was a little more relaxing than the 2D1N. That's on us, we didn't read carefully enough. Don't be like us! The 3D2N trek is very intense, with steep elevation changes and little downtime.
- If you're just after the peak, go for the 2D1N trek.
- If you want to enjoy the lake, hot springs, and crater, opt for the 4D3N trek.
On the 3D2N trek, we only had about an hour at the lake and hot springs.
The Downsides:
- Payment Issues: Wiring money took longer than expected to reach Aef's account. Consider using Wise.com to avoid delays with international wire transfer.
- Gear Disorganization: Despite filling out forms and reminders, gear wasn’t ready on the morning of the trek. We had to spend time finding gear, and there weren’t enough trekking poles for everyone.
Other things to note:
- Plan to buy some of your own water along the trek. Some of our group felt the water was enough but others did not
- Group size was 6 : 1 which is a bit large but not as big as other companies. If you're fast hikers, consider a private tour so you can go at your own pace.
- Rinjani Dawn carries out their trash, but many companies do not, unfortunately. You'll find trash on the mountain which is quite disappointing
- There's a lot of people on the mountain each day, it's not super peaceful if you're looking for solitude. But it is beautiful
- Bring some small change for the bathrooms at a few spots
- Bring hand sanitizer

One of the greatest but also one of the most challenging 3 days of my life...Climbing the Mount Rinjani in Indonesia with Rinjani Dawn adventures. But definitely worth the effort and sweat, the views are simply breathtaking and the experience itself unforgettable. Wonderful guide, sunsets and sunrises at the mountains and above the clouds, camping on the crater rims, relaxing in hot springs, wonderful porters who prepare you the food and drinks and tents, and carry all that stuff themselves. And not just basic food, but best food I have had in Indonesia, with even better views. Curry with chicken, banana pancakes, and even pop corn, you name it. Great environmentally friendly tour company.

Where to even start. Our experience with Rinjani Dawn was incredible, we did 3D2N Rinjani trek and it was just unbelievable from start to finish. Our guide Lan was knowledgeable, friendly and picked the very best spots for camping. Our porters were incredible, and the food the team
made every day was mountain gourmet - so delicious, nutritious and plentiful! The hike was beyond stunning, the views out of this world with amazing wildlife. My legs might need a few weeks to recover - it’s tough! But I’d recommend it to anyone who isn’t afraid of trekking up some really, really steep hills!

We did the 2 days 1 night trekking to the summit of Mt Rinjani. We never did a hike on a mountain before so we started a little bit scared.
The day before the trekking, we had a meeting with Aef and Hero (our guide). So they could make sure we had everything we needed to start the trekking the day after.
The first kilometers where quite easy but Hero kept saying to keep our own pace and to conserve energy (and later we would understand why)
There was enough time for rest and the porters did an amazing job on providing fantastic meals for breakfeast, lunch, snack and diner.
In between we also got chocolate bars and enough water to refill the waterbottles.
The only thing we had to carry was our clothing (including flipflops) and some water.
When we arrived on campsite, the tents where ready and we already had an amazing view over the region if we weren't in the clouds.
The tents where really comfortable with qualitative sleeping bag and matresses.
We got up at 1:30 to start the second trekking day at 2 o'clock.
We where with a group of 6 and the guide noticed there was a difference in pace between more experienced hikers and us. Therefore he made sure a porter stayed with us to the top to make sure everything was safe.
The first group did about 3 hours for the last part of the climb and we did it in 5.
It was really hard and the last 600 metres are so steep and with an underground where you go 1 step up, you go a half step down
We were on the verge of breaking when the our guide who was with the first group went down a bit to help us get to the top. We are sooo thankfull for that!
And the reward was worth it!
I would give more than 5 stars if it was possible!

Thank you for your review Marco, it's much appreciated by everyone at Rinjani Dawn Adventures. We are so happy you made it to the summit, and enjoyed your trek. It is a difficult climb that many people underestimate. But we are glad you persevered and made it to the summit safely. In August 2023, two of us in a small group were on Rinjani for two days and one night. The tour was organized by Rinjani Dawn Adventure. The reservation and communication via Aef went excellently. If you have accommodation near the volcano, you will be picked up very early. After a short breakfast and a small medical check, it is a 7-hour uphill hike. Overall very strenuous, but you are rewarded with fantastic views. Along the way, the porters provide you with very good food and drinks at a few rest stops. Our guide was always by our side and didn't let you out of his sight. When you arrive at the crater rim, the tents are set up and dinner is prepared. You are exhausted, but you have a wonderful view! At this point you have climbed about 1700 meters, and then another 1000 meters to the summit at night to marvel at the sunrise. We didn't do this last section, it was a bit too strenuous for our age. The sunrise from the crater rim is also worth seeing. The descent then takes another 3-4 hours, depending on your fitness level. Next time and with a little more time, we would probably plan one or two more days for this tour to enjoy the nature even more.
Thanks to the Rinjani Dawn Adventure team for this experience from Alberto and Alex from Germany

I meant to write a long review with all the details but I don't really want to waste my energy on that.
Just main points.
1. Company (particularly coordinator Aef) is interesting in you only until you have transferred them the deposit (100% by the way, even though they mentioned 20% on the website). They stopped replying just after I send them the money, I thought I was scammed. I managed to force them to answer and confirm the payment but further communication was really tough anyway. I couldn't even reach them by phone in the morning before the trekking start (I could find our driver).
2. I requested vegetarian meal, Aef said ok, but our guide was really surprised hearing that we don't eat chicken. Obviously he was not informed and had to find tempe for us on the spot from other porters.
3. They ignored all our requests about equipment rent. Aef always said 'ok' and just forgot my request. We packed all the stuff in a crazy hurry right before departure.
4. They claim to be an environmentally conscious company and promised to help us with the bottles refilling on the route but in fact the guide said that the water from the springs is for cooking only and can't be drunk without boiling. Why do you provide the wrong info on the website? They throw wastes all around absolutely the same way as all other porters/guides do.
Summary. I regret I paid money them. The price is not the cheapest in the area. I wanted to receive good service for higher price but they just a regular (or even lower an average) company.
Two stars only for the good guide Lang and nice driver Rody.
Totally not recommend that you choose this company!

We did the 4 days 3 nights Rinjani Summit trek. (Highly recommend spending 3 nights, as you will have a much more relaxed time and get to camp out at the lake). Because; the summit is not an easy ride! It's a really tough hike.
At the start of the trek they make sure you're well equipped. Do you miss anything? , they can borrow it to you without cost. We didn't have gloves and beanies, and boy did we need them! So very happy they provided us with everything we needed, as we also heard that some operators don't do this.
During the trek there were plenty of snacks :) which was really nice. Also enough water and decent sized meals and plenty of fruit. And dont forget the hot drinks! We had a lot of wind so cold nights and the ginger and lemon tea really was a treat everytime.
Overall we had a great time and felt really taken care of during our whole trek, which was a great feeling, as it can get tough sometimes.
Thank you Hero and Rinjani Dawn!

Thank you for your kind review Charlotte, it was a pleasure to meet you, and show you Mount Rinjani National Park. We are glad you had enough equipment, as it can be very cold going to the summit in the early morning, especially if it is windy. We wish you all the best for your future travels, and hope to see you back on Lombok at some point in the future. Best wishes, Aef, and the rest of the team at Rinjani Dawn Adventures.

Hi, my friend and I would like to book a tour. We have two questions: 1. Is it possible to cancel the trip without any extra costs? 2. How many days should we book in advance?
Kind regards
Sophie
Written 19 August 2019
Hi Sophie,
When you book a trek we invoice you for a 20% deposit. This is non-refundable, but is transferrable to another date or tour, should you cancel more than a day before the trek is due to depart. The main reason we do this is because we've had no-shows in the past that we have arranged transport for, and we have to pay our drivers and people regardless. We also buy fresh food the day before the trek, which goes to waste if people cancel last minute.
It's best to book at least 5 days in advance of a trek, as the national park is limiting numbers on the mountain using an online ticketing system. The cost of the entrance fee is now 150,000 IDR per person per day, which is covered in the price of the trek. To avoid disappointment it's advisable to book in advance, but if you want to make a last minute decision please just contact us through our website or WhatsApp number (it's easier for us to communicate details via email, however).
Best wishes,
Angus

Can I join a group or do I need to book together with other people?
Written 9 April 2018
Hi Andre. we need a minimum of 2 people to run a trek. if you inquire via our online booking system, we'll see if there is a group leaving on the dates specified. if not, we'll advise as to alternate dates / packages. So basically you can join a group if there is one, but we can't run treks for 1 person- 2 is the minimum. most of our groups are 4-10 people, but we often also run with 2.

hello! is it possible to go trekking to Rinjani in March?
Written 24 February 2018
Hi there. Unfortunately the mountain is closed from January to April as it is the rainy season, and the National Park authority restricts access. At the moment the booking calendar on our website does not reflect this (i.e., it still allows you to make an enquiry for these months), which can lead to confusion.
Trekking on Mt Rinjani officially opens on 1st April. We will post updates on our website if for any reason the government changes this policy.
Many thanks for getting in touch.
