We visited end of December and alas no rapids...Water is low but even so this was a super lovely park with a well maintained and clean trail that leads out to a couple of overlooks. Will definitely return, would love to see what these rapids look like wen the water is higher.

This is a lovely park for moderate to easy hiking. They have honor style entry fees ($5 per car) and clean restrooms with running water. We went on a Monday so there was NOBODY there. We took the Big Shoals trail which parallels the river. You can catch glimpses on parts of the trail and there are several access points... More

They aren't lying when they say the bugs are moderate-severe here! But as long as you wear bug spray and keep moving this is one of the best hiking trails I have done so far! Just beautiful!!

We are two pretty active 70 year olds, but we had been to White Springs park for a hike and found the trails we tried too difficult. Then we found Big Shoals. The hike to the whitewater was great. It was a relatively easy 2.5 mile hike with the reward being the rapids at the turnaround point. Who knew -... More

This is an easy, short hike for someone with good footing because there are roots in the path along the way. The hike leads to a set of rapids on the Suwannee River. Very nice to see. The park offers picnic tables and restrooms. Total time, including a picnic lunch was about 2 hours.

Hiked 2.5 miles round trip to see the rapids. Water level was just right for it. Nice hike. Not sure what else there is to do as we got there late afternoon and that was all we had time for.

We visited the state park on a beautiful day in November. We drove the short distance from Stephen Foster State Park to the furthest enterance of the park. We felt this access lacked signage and we questioned if we made the correct turn. The enterance road is a wide dirt road that cuts through a planted forest. Once at the... More

Finally! The water level was perfect to see the Rapids! It is not a strenuous trail but full of roots and cypress knees. Found a geocache also. Several tables to have picnic.

We hiked here on vacation; the trails need some work and the trail maps are not to scale. We hiked the Long Branch trail with our 5 year old son which is marked at less than a mile but turned out to be almost 3 miles, so pack accordingly.

It's a beautiful park; if you take the Long Branch Trail keep in mind that is ALOT longer than the 'less than one mile' shown on the park map scale; we logged it as close to 3 miles, so if you're thinking 'quick view' or you have small children, make sure you carry some water and snacks...
