Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It’s a little rundown now but this is still a wonderful stadium with a great view of the field of play from anywhere in the ground. My group had great seats at the Andy Roberts end, but it was much more enjoyable to watch the match with the locals on the grassy bank. Plenty of food and drink vendors there too. Excellent lobster and goat water for lunch.

On our recent visit to the lovely island of Antigua, my wife and I arranged a bespoke island tour and one of the places we requested to see was The Vivian Richards Stadium, having just seen West Indies play England recently on TV Sports. Would have loved to have been there a few weeks earlier to experience the match live. We went in and had a good look around at the impressive facilities. Worth a visit, ideally when the Windies are playing!

What a lovely disorganised stadium this is. A picture of the great 'Sir Viv' statue is a must before you enter the ground. Don't bother buying a stand seat ticket as some seats don't exist and people sit where they want anyway! The best place to sit is on the stoned ground area - the atmosphere gets better and better as the day goes on!!! Also you are close to the food and drink stalls - the jerk chicken is delicious.
The ground staff don't have the best of equipment but managed to get 2 International ODIs completed.
All said what a fantastic experience shared with Antiguans and England fans. A great day out.

We paid $35 for tickets in the main stand though really could have spent $15 for the cheapest tickets and sat where we liked as there were lots of spaces. The seats are a bit grubby and we had to wipe ours down in the front two rows of the main grandstand before we sat.
It’s all a little higgledy-piggledy but that just adds to the charm of the stadium. We had vendors selling everything from pies to goat curry right behind our part of the stand but we walked around to where there were some great food offerings at lunch. I opted for a lobster and shrimp roll while my wife had a Mac and cheese with truffle and both were great. We drank Veuve Clicquot and jugs of Pimms and bantered with the mostly friendly locals.
We had a wonderful day, it was my wife’s first ever at cricket and she absolutely loved it (not difficult considering the above and 28C temperature) - it’s certainly different from my upbringing at Lords and the Oval.!

We were not able to find out any information about upcoming cricket matches so we drove to the stadium to see it. When we arrived we found at the entrance they were selling tickets to a match that was in day 3 for $10 EC so we bought tickets and went in. The seating was largely empty so we sat down and enjoyed the match! The stadium is very impressive in scale and had just completed a major refurbishment paid for by the Government of China. There were 2 concessions open selling a good range of food and drinks. This facility is definitely worth visiting and it is a shame that they make it so difficult to find out when games are on.

Just a few miles north of the old cricket stadium, the Antigua Recreational ground - which was the scene of so many West Indian cricket successes over the years, is the New stadium that succeeds the ARG.
This new purpose built ground may currently lack the history of its predecessor, but certainly makes up for it with the new facilities and seating.
Great lines of sight to the out field and much to admire with everything a cricket lover would cherish.
A statue of the great man (Viv Richards) stands proudly outside the ground - significantly he has his bat raised in triumph, but he is not smiling - so I guess it is either a true likeness or a warning to other teams !

I wished we could have seen a match while visiting Antigua, but we did stop by the stadium to look around and take some photos. We were driving out to Long Bay Beach and in the middle of nowhere, this beautiful modern cricket ground suddenly popped up. It was a bit surreal. It sounds like we could have had a quick look around which I wish we had done but views from outside were still impressive, and I was able to get a nice photo of the statue of Sir Vivian Richards. Hearing the sound of batting practice in the nearby training fields was pretty cool.

Very friendly ground with the ability to walk all the way around the stadium with no restrictions. A negative of this is that the stands weren’t policed so anyone buying a ground ticket could gain access to the more expensive seating areas. Fantastic selection of local food outlets at fairly reasonable prices.

I’d like to visit the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium next March for the test match, what area of the island should I be looking to book a hotel in which is easily accessible to the stadium and is a beech location?
Thanks in advance.

Are you able to take own food and drink into the ground ?
Written 4 November 2018
I’m sorry I can’t help you. There wasn’t a match on while we were there, I wish there had been. The stadium was empty. We just visited on an island tour. We saw food counters etc but I’m sure the locals must take in their own food and drink. Antigua is very relaxed and can’t imagine they would be that strict.

I've just been reading reviews of the Sir Viv Richards stadium in Antigua. We are over there in a few weeks for the England ODI against West Indies and were wondering whether it is best to get tickets for the North or South stands. We don't want to be in the shade all day, neither do we want to fry in the sun! Is one stand any better than the other and is it possible to move around to different seats in the same price range if you want to catch/avoid the sun?
Many thanks,
Chris
