We recently attended a night guided tour and saw a loggerhead turtle laying eggs, covering her nest, and returning to the water. Where else in the world can you see something like this?! There is also a very interesting and informative Visitor Center. There were about 28,000 nestings on this beach last year and the numbers of Loggerheads, Greens, and... More

We booked for one of the volunteer led turtle sea walks to see a loggerhead turtle laying it's eggs. An exceptional experience which I would recommend anyone visiting June or July looks to visiting the Barrier Island Sanctuary

We stopped by the Barrier Island Sanctuary Education Center, which is the Visitor Center for the Archie Carr Refuge, and loved it. The Center itself had so many exhibits about the local nature life and the ones with live animals were fantastic. We had never seen the animal inside a whelk shell, or the sea slugs, or so many baby... More

Sometimes I feel I should not tell people about a truly wonderful place I have found because I fear when I want to go back it will be crowded. However, I here it is. The Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge is both educational and entertaining. My wife and I went with another couple for an early morning turtle walk. The... More

Both adults and children will enjoy a very informative and impressive conservation effort made by Archie Carr that will be around for generations I hope. I have lived in Florida for many years close to the ocean plus known many marine biologists & still learned things about turtles, hatchlings and protection efforts in the US and around the world. Things... More

We had a reservation for a turtle walk at the Melbourne Beach location of the Archie Carr Wildlife Refuge . When we arrived, we visited the viewing platform/boardwalk and was able to see various turtles bobbing their heads in the ocean. The walk is commenced with a discussion in the auditorium about turtles (Loggerheads, Green & Leatherback) & their habitats.... More

Love sea turtles? This is a place for you. Proud to know that good citizens started long ago to save the nesting beaches in the Vero Beach, FL, area about 30 years ago. Awesome to walk the beaches in a.m. from May to Oct. to see the "crawls" of the mom turtles as they come on shore to lay their... More

Great place to visit. Good hiking with pleasant observation deck overlooking the Indian River Lagoon. Good biking along adjacent Jungle Trail as well. Easy kayak launch site and easy, protected kayaking around mangroves and inlets. Great for birders and manatee watchers.
