Distinctive for its nine-arched entry and splendid view, this late 19th-century church is tiled on the outside with silver-toned native wood, like other Chiloe churches.

All the churches in Chiloe are so beautifull

Try to see as much as you can, there are so many wood churches and all so beautiful. For the people of the islands they are importants, and they try to maintain them well.

The Nuestra Senora de los Dolores Church was completed very early in the 20th century. It is painted in subdued beautiful colours. Not as beautiful as the wooden church in Achao, but still worth a visit.

This is a very imposing-looking church indeed. Hard to tell about the inside though, as it was locked. The nearby church at Curaçao de Velez, over at the next island, was definitely worth seeing, though much smaller.

Every village and town on the island of Chiloe has a church or cathedral built in a Teutonic style. Nuestra Senora de Los Dolores Church in Dalcahue is one such. The style is indicative of the influx of Europeans to this area in the past few centuries, and they are all made completely of wood and are truly beautiful. Also... More

A special experience at the Isle of Chiloé are the approx 150 wooden churches in every town. 16 of them are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Beautyfull and long lasting architecture in cypress wood.

As a whole, we were not impressed with Chiloe. This is an interesting church, though, and if you are in the area, worth a peak.

Highly regarded and listed church that we paid a lot of money to visit. Our three hour taxi tour from Castro to Dalcahue and Chonchi cost US $100 which was excessive in the extreme. Pleasant enough to look at but unless you are a total church aficionado I probably wouldn't bother. I have posted some photos which may assist you... More

After spending two wonderful days touring Quinchoa Island we caught the tiny ferry back to Dalcahue and parked our motor caravan 'Mickey' outside this interesting church. After looking around the church's interior we walked two blocks to see part of the Dalcahue Rodeo. The part we saw was about about teams of two Gauchos using their horses to control a... More

This is a church that definitely needs some TLC, but I loved the arches in the front. The neat thing about all of the churches we visited is that the native Artisans of the islands brought their craftsmanship to the building of these churches and blended what they knew with the European techniques of the priests and missionaries. All of... More
