Mangrove Tunnel Kayak Adventure in Key Largo

5 reviews
As a life long keys resident It is my pleasure to show you the mangrove tunnels that we enjoyed as kids off Key Largo. Enjoy the beauty of the Florida Keys from the water while we paddle along the crystal clear waters of the Florida Keys. See birds, wildlife, fish, and learn about the area as well.

Lovely walk thru the mangroves out to the bay, seeing recuperated wild birds in their forever home. Educational and entertaining. Will take less than an hour to go thru. Worth it, for sure. We had trouble finding it - GPS took us to ocean side and then the Birdgency room/hospital. It is further north, bay side. Besides learning about sea birds, I learned about turkey vultures which we are plentiful where we live.

great little spot to stop and learn a little about the different types of birds. You just walk on your own. I enjoyed this little spot and only would have liked to have talked to someone and asked some questions about the birds. They run on donations.

If you like birds of prey, especially owls, you will have tons of photo ops here. All the birds here would be unable to survive in the wild. Some are blind, or nearly so, some are injured in ways which precludes permanent recovery. The are well cared for here. It's small, but worth it. We enjoyed it very much.

Thank you for your appreciation of the Sanctuary! We have many plans for upgrades in several areas. Behind the scenes, we treated more than 1000 injured wild birds in our Avian Hospital of over 100 species. We were able to return a large percentage to the wild after rehabilitation. We certainly appreciated your support!

And thank you very much for those few dollars! Everything helps. We are only funded by donations, Even during the year of Covid, when the Sanctuary was closed for much of the time, our Avian Hospital continued to treat sick and injured native wild birds. We consumed supplies, kept the lights on, and paid the staff. We appreciate your nice review and your help!

We made an unscheduled stop here and were pleasantly surprised with the variety of large birds that "live" there. They are injured and so can't be released to the wild, this is a great place for them to live out their years in safety and health. Hawks, owls, even boobies!

We are very happy you DID stop! Thank you for your nice rating and your excellent description of the function of the Sanctuary. The Center facility package includes an Avian Hospital where most of the work goes on. We are successful in returning a large percentage of the birds we treat in the hospital to the wild.
