Variety of trails to select from. Wooden stairs to top of two of the mounds are close to parking area. One path required dexterity to navigate temporary boards on the ground through a muddy area which added more fun to the adventure for our granddaughter. Open grassy area good for kids and dogs. There is a good sized covered picnic... More

Lake Jackson Mounds preserves several beautifully preserved "Fort Walton" or Mississippian-era mounds and has a beautiful nature trail that winds through the remains of a 19th century plantation farming operation. The largest of the mounds is absolutely magnificent in size!

A bit of history tucked away just off Lake Jackson. Interesting mounds and history of the early peoples of that area. When you walk the area and see how close it was to the lake, you can get a glimpse of what their life may have been like and perhaps why they chose that area to build the mounds. There... More

While traveling through Tallahassee we were looking for a place to stop for lunch and go for a walk before returning to our drive. The Lake Jackson Mounds and Archeological State Park was the perfect find. There were several trails to hike through the woods. We even did a little off trailing... wonderful! The picnic area was very nice, set... More

We went to this state park and had a good time. There are plenty of pavillions for families to gather. There is also a pavillion with grill to cook. The pavillion had electircal outlets and they are situated under trees. There is a playground for kids. Clean restrooms. Not a real nature person but area was nice and clean, I... More

There are old mound sites scattered around the southeast, and the most impressively maintained ones I've seen are at Cahokia, IL (Cahokia), Macon, GA (Ocmulgee), and Blakely, GA (Kolomoki, not so far away from here). It must be said that these mounds are not as impressive as those, not are they maintained as well as those. But mounds are always... More

This was one of our first stops in Tallahassee. I'd been years before, back when my family moved to the Tallahassee area, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. My boyfriend researched parks in the area and wanted to come here, so we did. We enjoyed the trail, climbing the mounds, reading the historical markers, etc. Crazy lotta mosquitoes, though! BRING THE... More

I always enjoy being out in the fresh air but overall, this park was a disappointment. My husband and walked the trail and visited the mounds but we just couldn't work up any excitement over what we were viewing. There is a nice picnic shelter but it would not be my first choice in the Tallahassee area. Restrooms are available... More

we went to the mound read the sign. we walked up the stairs at the mounds and saw nothing. we walked the path to the end and saw 1 sign on a tree and that was it. I expected to see a mound with a cutout so you could see inside and a room with artifacts but there was nothing... More

Excitement with kids quickly turned to boredom. Nice quiet area if out for a stroll. I thought the mounds were impressive, a little to read and learn along the way.
