Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The service was poor and took a long time. Food was cold, sent back and then they warmed it up a bit. The meat was inedible, satay sauce did not come back, after I asked, the same satay sauce came back, which was now cold. Had to ask again if something to drink could be ordered. Worthless, don't come here again. I live on the island myself, but I would not recommend it to anyone.

We just arrived in sunny Florida for some much needed R&R. We got to the beach around noon and found it clogged with seaweed which made it difficult to walk the shoreline in places.
I've been here before and know how great it can be. It missed the mark today.

The Surfside beach shore has dissapeared. The little stripof sand left is covered with decaying algae full of flies. The city refuses to acknowledge residents and visitors complaints to fix the problem. The decayin brown algae mountain keeps growing by theday and nobody seems to be interested inpicking it up to clean the beach. It is horrible. Unless you want to bathe in a decaying brown algae pool, go somewhere else.

We were very disappointed to receive a $158 Surfside traffic ticket after returning home from a trip to the greater Miami area. They'd used a camera to record our driving through an "intersection," a place marked only by traffic lights that are well past the place they expect you to stop -- completely past a crosswalk and a little side street that only intersects from one direction. (We have checked this on Google Maps and it's really clear.) Compounding the problem, we'd just responded to a sign instructing us to change lanes, really just a distraction to set us up to miss the pseudo-intersection. Be very cautious in Surfside, but particularly on Collins at 93rd Street. There's robbery going on in broad daylight right there!

I am so happy to be able to enjoy this beautiful sunny beach in Miami! It has a very clean boardwalk where we can walk and the white sand is clean and the sea is marvelous!

The beach was great. Very clean with good white sand. However there's a major beach building project ongoing at the moment. All day long from 8am trucks are ferrying and dumping sand on the beach. It's very noisy and I found crossing the marks in the sand left by the trucks difficult as I'm recovering from a fracture of a metatarsal bone in my foot. I wasn't expecting to have to cope with this.
Also the beachguards were flying red and blue flags most days due to very rough seas and a jellyfish infestation.I did have some very nice swims in the ocean when the jellyfish were gone. My husband was stung. Not a nice experience.

Surfside is a very nice community slightly North of the glitz of South Beach. For families, you will be much more pleased with the great beach at Surfside. In addition to the beach there is a great section for running or riding bikes and a section for walking. Don't be surprised to see kitties along these beachside trails. They live in the adjacent shrubs and are cared for by caring residents and visitors. It is my favorite beach in Florida.

We don't really want anyone to know about the beach at Surfside. No crowds, a beautiful beach. The North Shore Open Park Space takes up the southern half of the area. There are lower rise condominiums and hotels (8-12 stories) to the north with houses and other spaces between them. This beach, less than 30 minutes north of South Beach, has a residential feel to it.
The beach is wide and the entry to the water is shallow a long way out. A walking path and bike path, together with sea oats, separate the sand from the buildings, offering privacy on the beach and from the beach. Enough room for everyone to spread out.
Some new condominiums are being built, so the crowds may grow in the future. Nothing like South Beach, though. Restaurants with open air seating a couple blocks in, for after the beach time. Not too much available to walk up from the beach, but that is in keeping with the residential nature of the area.
I'm not knocking South Beach; it's beautiful and a great place to play and to people watch. Surfside is a great alternative, especially if you have kids or just want a day away from the crowds, at a beautiful beach.

Is there anywhere for the public to rent chairs and/or beach umbrellas?
Written 23 February 2016
I don't believe so. However, the park that makes up the south end of the beach at Surfside (the North Shore Open Space Park) runs 10 blocks long between 79th and 88th Streets and has plenty of trees. You can find many shady spots right on the beach, maybe even a picnic table. Take a look at my review of Surfside Beach by clicking my icon on the left and then clicking Contributions. If you like it, I always appreciate a Helpful vote. I have other recommendations around Surfside, too.
Good luck in Surfside. The beach and the town are very quiet and comfortable.
