Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a great experience, even if you are not a whisky drinker. We did a family distillery tour with cheese at Easter and it was fabulous. The tour was about 2 hours and it went too fast. Having the opportunity to be on the distillery floor and with Stuart, the distiller was magic. Stuart is so giving of his time and took us on a journey and we learnt so much... like the role beer plays in the making of whisky. We tasted, we stole whisky from the cask, ate delicious local cheese. and left with a sample bottle and other bottles. My dad just loved it and said it was one of the best things he has done. My dad is a whisky drinker, but I dont think he'd experienced really beautiful whisky... His fav the Tanist

What a lovely experience after lockdown!
We were met by Stuart when we walked in and welcomed warmly. Our group consisted of just four people, making it quite a relaxing tour.
Stuart was most engaging with his story and how the distillery began. It is a family owned distillery who are passionate about what they do and are constantly evolving.
The cheese platter, which came from the Boatshed Cheese in Dromana, complimented the whisky tasting so well.
We left extremely happy with a few more bottles added to our collection.
Highly recommended!

My husband and I took my parents for a tasting and we had a wonderful time with Naomi and Stuart. We pre-ordered a cheese platter to accompany our tasting and spent an hour and a half being educated about all things whiskey. Naomi was patient, passionate and generous with her time. Each whiskey was superb, it was hard to choose a favourite - which is why we went home with the sample pack. Definitely a must do if you like whiskey.

I am not really a drinker but I dutifully attended a tour here with my husband for his birthday. From the minute we sat down I was absolutely enthralled with the explanation of the beginnings of the business, the family story & the complexities of distilling whiskey. We were treated so well & I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Stuart was a gracious, engaging & generous host. I loved everything about this tour. As for my husband ? Whiskey lovers heaven!

On a recent trip to the Mornington Peninsula, making some final arrangements for our small group tour in October, we visited the distillery. Sarah was a delightful guide for the tasting Brendon undertook, we both learned so much more about their business, their heritage, the story behind the name and of course about the fabulous single malt whiskies. We didn't leave empty handed and look forward to returning with our small group. Well done Sarah & Stuart, and delightful to see you collaborating with the other spirit distillers in the peninsula as well.

Don't let the surroundings fool you. As I was unable to walk up the stairs to the tasting room we were lucky enough to do a tasting in the distillery. Love the story of how the company was started. Whisky was stunning. Can't wait to come visit again.

Absolutely wonderful experience, we are not super big fans of whiskey but are now super big fans of the Chief's Son Distillery. So much history and passion shining through for such a new (in whiskey years) venture. Take some time out and stop in for a tasting.

Stuart was a fantastic host, providing a fascinating insight into the creation of whisky as well as the genesis of Chief’s Son and its evolution (created and run by Stuart and his wife).
A delicious platter of local cheeses complemented the four tastings, with Stuart offering extra tastings of some other varieties. Encouraging us all to help ourselves to a take-home sample by drawing from the barrel using a whisky thief was a nice touch!
Thoroughly recommended for anyone who has even the slightest interest in whisky!
