Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We saw an identical statue in San Diego few years ago, so I was surprised seeing the same one here in Sarasota. You cannot miss it driving the shore Avenue.
For taking pics just catch the first next turn right as there's a big parking lot and the sculpture is just beside it - even if there're no parking spaces you can stop for few min just to take a pic.
The sculpture is larger than life, very joyfull and heart filling marking the end of WWII.

The unconditional surrender sculpture by Seward Johnson from 2006 commemorates veterans at the Sarasota waterfront. It is a massive 26 foot eye-catching piece of art. Jack Corrin a World War II veteran brought the sculpture with support to Sarasota, it was copied from the photograph taken in Times Square when World War II ended

Right at a main intersection this statue reproduces the famous photo celebrating the end of World War Two. What to say. Well, you must take the time to view it when in Sarasota. It’s iconic.

Unconditional Surrender is devisive in Sarasota. There are those that love it and those that loathe it saying it's not "art". Personally speaking, I love it. If you've seen some of the other "art" around the city I'll take this over some of the others any day. Besides, this is based on a famous photo event from the end of WW2, and the statue has become an iconic part of Sarasota's waterfront. As others have noted, it's been moved from it's previosly location slightly south inside the park due to construction of a roundabout at it's previous location. That's a good thing because it's safer now to take photos and actually closer to the water which makes for nicer ones as well. I also read in the local paper here that app. 26% of visitors to the area get their photo taken with the statue as a backdrop, and that's pretty amazing when you consider how many visitors we get here. Come on down, take a look, and enjoy the bayfront while you're here.

I love this statue and think it adds something special to Sarasota. The statue is huge and when you get close you realize you're only about as tall as the shoes. Our kids had a great time visiting it and seeing how they measured up to it.

A great reminder to everyone what the "greatest generation" was all about.
The statue is really well done and its location in the Bay park makes for a wonderful place to stroll about.
Get there early as parking gets to be a chore...lots of tour boats leave from the area.

Since moving it to its new location, this has actually become a pretty fantastic place to visit to get photographs and enjoy the art. This is now the third location for this great statue, and by far the best. It’s easy to access, easy parking, great background to take pictures, and overall a fun place to visit. We highly recommend it

We stayed at a magnificent hotel directly in front of this ginormous sculpture. I wanted to get a good picture from our room but our hotel windows were tinted. I was not able to go close to it as I wanted to due to the obnoxious trump protestors surrounding it with flags and yelling. Finally, after a day of rain, we hopped out to get a close-up. IT IS A MUST-SEE! Don't forget to look up the history of this great sculpture.

I had always heard the story behind this WWII image and wanted to see the statue in person. I honestly didn’t know there was one in Sarasota but it was amazing to see. Huge and great opportunity for a quick photo opp

As others have likely mentioned, it’s moved to a different location within the park area. It’s actually safer if you want pictures. I loved where it used to be and it was so impressive - but downtown Sarasota is getting too built up and busy for it to stay there.
