Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary provides a sanctuary "for life" for the exotic animals currently calling the sanctuary home. Our goal is to create habitats that mimic native environments and are complete with a staff that can provide daily behavioral, sensory, and manipulative enrichment which is the basis for a happy healthy animal in captivity. As we grow and open our habitat to more rescues we will provide the same excellent care while educating the public.

This was my first visit toThe Big Cat Habitat. This is a non profit organisation that rescues and cares for these majestic animals. They have 50+ big cats at this site including a pair of Ligers, the male weighing in at 1000lbs. There are also bears, monkeys and a large variety of other animals. The petting zoo with pygmy goats,... More

Best place to see the Liger, a cross between lion and tiger, that is gigantic! Definitely should try to visit when temperature is cooler. Unfortunately, we went in the summer and the animals looked wilted and tired, just as we were since there is limited shade and summers in Sarasota can be brutal.

It's been 6 months since I visited the rescue sanctuary. They have serval cats originally from Africa. The animals are less than 30 pounds but as the owners will tell you, they are wild animals and aren't designed to be 'pets'! The bears have become my favorites as they entertain the visitors coming onto the grounds! The show with a... More

Excellent place to visit. The Cat show is incredible. They take care of the big cats with so much respect and love. Well worth seeing. Bird show is cute and the petting zoo is so fun, especially the emus and llamas. They are saving so many exotic animals and can use any donations that you can give. I've been there... More

We really enjoyed the up close viewing of the animals and the show. They had fantastic information about why it is not a good idea to have an exotic animal as a pet as this is where most of the animals they have in the habitat came from. We were staying in Orlando and made the trip down to Sarasota... More

I moved to Sarasota a year ago and visited Big Cat Habitat for the first time last week. I waited a year because there are lots of things to see and do in the area, and I thought Big Cat would be kind of of cheesy, touristy kind of place. But I did want to check it out in case... More

Beautiful big cats galore!! As well as other animals ranging from tortoises to camels to even a bison. And of course, lions, tigers, ligers and a few bears!!! Beautiful habitat and not very expensive. Well worth the $18 because we're helping support the care of the majestic animals. Got there about 45 minutes before closing so we weren't able to... More

Had am amazing day with amazing animals and the people who love and care for them. The animals are obviously well cared for. The array of animals goes far beyond just cats. The two shows; birds and cats, were informative as well as fun. Petting zoo for kids. Thank you to the sponsors: Winn Dixie, Fresh Market, Whole Foods, Costco.... More
