Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Looks like a beautiful place to hang out, but due to COVID-19, a lot of places were closed. Also on a Sunday night in August at almost 10 pm there were protestors chanting and marching down the street. I thought that seemed a little late for a protest on a Sunday night. Kind of a big turnoff.

Starting with the Saturday fresh market for a mixed bag of veggies and homemade goods by the locals. Move on to a light breakfast at Cassis or 2nd & Second. Then spend a walking tour of Central Avenue boutique shops.

I just love St Petersburg. It’s a wonderfully vibrant city. There is always something happening. I enjoy walking all around the park, beach dr, but especially Central av . It goes all the way from downtown to the beach and has a number of different neighborhoods. We enjoy stopping at each area and checking out the areas. There is an antique area and the downtown is changing to a very modern artsy area. We found some really nice boutiques and did a little shopping last week. There are some very nice restaurants we have visited before and plan to go back soon.

I really love the look and feel of downtown St Petersburg. I’m not sure what it is, maybe its the architecture or the salt sea air, but it’s definitely got a Mediterranean flavor to it: sort of a mix between between Nice and Monica but on a smaller scale. People were out and about early enjoying coffee and a croissant at the sidewalk cafe’s much like they do in the south of France. Others were strolling along the harbor or sitting under the banyan tree soaking up the sun. And lets not forget the swish boutiques where one can easily part with ones hard earned money. I haven't even started on the Dali or Chihuly Museum or the free Downtown Looper Trolley that takes you there, Dang but I want to move here.

We enjoyed walking around and dining. The water is nearby and there are some historic buildings. The are a lot of restaurants and bars. The parking was reasonable for us. We stayed in a garage near Datz and it was 1 hour free and $1 per hour after the first hour.

We enjoyed out stay in St. Petersburg and felt VERY safe wandering thru the downtown area day and night. Lots of great things to do and see, a beautiful waterfront, lots of nightlife and many parks within walking distance including lots of opportunities to be near or on the water. The downtown area is full of GREAT restaurants.

The downtown area has large buildings but they seem to be more residential. There are a number of shops, galleries and restaurants in this peaceful and pretty area. Driving through is pretty easy without a lot of traffic when we visited.

Looper free trolley gives an excellent view of the city’s museums, restaurants, theaters, The Pier ,supermarkets and the rest. Quick transport later. Trolley Drivers are friendly and good ambassadors to the city. I took several maps and gave them to newcomers. A real asset. The Sunrunner bus to St. Pete Beach beats driving and is fast. General commuter traffic is heavier than expected. Beaches beautiful. Most St. Pete residents are from somewhere else and are happy to talk up their adopted Sunshine City.

Saint Petersburg is the little known gem of Florida. Very friendly, tons and tons of things to do- check out "I love the Burg" for a huge list of ideas, great restaurants all over the city and art, art, art, art. Also lots of local bars and breweries play music for free-- I love this place !

Rapidly growing city that is absolutely beautiful. It's relatively small, so getting around doesn't take much walking. Unfortunately, that means that downtown streets can become highly congested during peak hours, so finding parking can be difficult.

Curiosity: is that a question?
If so, I am curious what you are referring to.
There is historically Black entertainment district in St Pete situated along 22nd = hence the "Deuces"
I have heard of it mainly as a thing of the past with some effort of local groups to bring it back.

I guess affordable is relative to how much money you have- there are places off the beaten path -you might be able to rent a house with Vrbo in Old Northeast- — downtown is very upscale , definitely worth going but if you want to save some money travel a little north or south by the bay…

Downtown St. Petersburg is defined by two streets, Central Avenue and Beach Drive. Good reference points for your GPS are the Vinoy Hotel, the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts and The Sundial Mall.
Park your car near the intersection of Central & Beach and take it from there!

Many choices on Beach Dr. Cassis is fancy but delicious! All have great views of parks and water!

Are the Dali Museum and the St. Pete Museum of History within walking distance of each other?
Also, can anyone recommend a good lunch spot in the same area?
TIA

A long walk but there is a free trolley bus. Very easy to get around. Lots of restaurants scattered around.

South St Pete has a bad reputation for crime. Does it spill over into this area at times?
Written 9 May 2017
Not at all! Downtown St.Pete is very safe, beautiful and even a little upscale. The neighborhood you are referring to is at least a 15 minute drive away and does not spill over at all. Downtown is a must see!

Some of the best restaurants in Downtown St. Petersburg are along the Beach Drive: Cassis, Bella Brava, Canopy, Park Shore Grill, Moon Under Water (British tavern), and some others. They have both American and, say Italian items on their menus. Also some nice restaurants are in Sundial - the Fresh Market (this is the name of the grocery and the restaurant), as well as along the 2nd Ave -- Grattzi's, and many others. Prices are relatively moderate, these are not too fine-dining places, but not too casual, either. Quite a few have seating inside and outside, parking is along the Beach Shore Drive. Very nice views of the parks and the bay area.

Where is the best place to park near 17th and Central? Is there free parking?
Written 9 January 2017
Not sure about parking at Central & 17th but lots of cheap parking downtown. You can park for $5.00 in most areas.
