Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stopped at Maximo Park on the way back from Sarasota. It was easy to get to and the park was largely empty at around 3pm on a Tuesday. There are picnic areas, playground, bathrooms, Disc Golf Holes and a small wooden lookout tower. It was fine, but does not look very used aside from the boat ramp area as the grass and brush were overgrown right even after the labor day weekend. There were also a few homeless individuals hanging around which kind of kills the vibe of a nice public park.
We did see a long black snake and a swarm of bees nesting in a log. The bee area was clearly marked with warnings and was taped off.

Most of the time I'm launching a boat to go fishing here. With two separate launch areas with 5 boat ramps and fairly ample parking, most days you have no problems getting the boat in for a quick launch. However, on nice days, boat and trailer parking fills quickly so early is best to get out. It's free to launch and park. Other areas of the park for walkers, runners, and bike trails lead through natural palmetto trails. Pic nic areas with grills are available on a first-come first-served basis. Most are located on the water with shelters and a scenic view of lower Tampa and Boca Ciega Bays. You can fish from shore if you like. Sun bathers take advantage of the fresh air and sunshine, but if you want soft white powdery beach sand, this isn't it. Pass-A-Grille, St. Pete., or Clearwater Beaches are better choices. But the park is located conveniently off Interstate 275 and easily accessible from the north or south. There are public restrooms available but no fish cleaning facilities for anglers or outboard motor flushing facilities for boaters.

Maximo Park is a natural area off of the last exit before the Skyway Bridge (Exit 16). I has a boat ramp (free), Frisbee golf course, children's play area, a small beach, and numerous picnic shelters. We frequently go on Sunday afternoons to use one of their grills and to watch the boats come in and out of the bay. If you want to pretty, white sands St Petersburg is known for, skip it, but if you want to experience a more natural Florida habitat, enjoy!

The views of the water are amazing, including the Skyway Bridge. There's a observation deck to see the water better Around the park is a Florida like forest with both tropical plants and animals, giving people a chance to see Florida wildlife. The only flaw is that there isn't any access to beverages. Neither a water fountain or vending machine. Also no soap in the bathrooms.

Enjoy this large waterfront park on Boca Ciega Bay. It offers lush vegetation, walking and bike trails, 2 large boat ramps, a playground area, fishing, picnic pavillions, restrooms, benches, and a sandy beach (not as impressive as a gulf beach but good for the kids). I live nearby and frequent this oasis in the south of St. Petersburg. It's a joy to see dolphins, water birds, or a different sunset everyday.

Not easy to find, but very quaint park on the bay with boat ramp, beach, water access, biking and hiking trails.

This is a nice, clean park on the water. Grounds are well maintained and has public boat docs. Great place for a walk or bike ride also

No waves as it is in the bay, but all the amenities and swimming you could want. Picnic tables, frisbee golfing, free parking, free multiple boat landings, rest rooms and very few people most of the time. Plenty of parking.

If you have a boat, Maximo park is one of the best place to utilize. Great fishing all around this area. Less congestion than the Fort Desoto facility, you will like it here. Right next to O'Neill's marina, you can launch, get bait at O'Neill's if that's your thing. Short distance to great action. That's Fort Desoto. That's the north Skyway. That's a lot of the places I go as a fishing guide.

Do I have to reserve a shelter for a picnic or is it 'first come, first served'? Can I BBQ there?

Actually there is a bike trail that's marked as you enter the park. I've never ridden on the trail so don't have first hand info. I don't think the bike trails are like off-road trails.
