- Kevin W47 contributionsSchool is in Session! This is a very cool place to tour and it wont take long for you to tour it. You compare the education system today to back then, you realize how far we have come but certain things taught back then should be taught now. It was cool that they had animatronics that were very detailed that told the story of this historic place. Be sure and ring the school bell out back. If your tall like me, you might have to duck in certain spots.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 October 2023
- Stephen KCorpus Christi, Texas2,749 contributionsDon’t go out of your way to visit, but okAppears to be authentic, but not a lot to it. Is near the City Gate area in the midst of the shops on St George Street. Would not make extra effort to go but is ok. There is a store associated with the schoolhouse, where you pay the entrance fee.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 February 2024
- Stephanie B642 contributionsJust ok and not worth the priceI’m happy I finally went through it, but i definitely wouldn’t go again. You can see everything in 5 min because there’s really not much to it. Way overpriced for 5 min. Also, it’s tight quarters so if you have a slow moving family in front of you or one with lots of kids, it’s pretty frustrating.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 March 2024

What a cute and wonderful little piece of history. It’s a $10 per person charge, Which is well worth it. I felt like I a little kid in that place. My husband and I enjoyed ourselves taking in all the historical information and buildings in the little area. We loved it!!!!

I visited this small historical school house with my nephews as we happened to walk by on St. George Street.
I've been to town tons of times, but never had visited this place before. The kids asked to go see it so we went inside. The cashier was very friendly, helpful and informative. Admission was cheap and there was no line so we were able to walk right in.
This place is very small and doesn't take a whole lot of time to see. We probably spent about a total 15 minutes on this visit, including reading the displays, taking pics and watching the animatronic display inside the school house (which was interesting and enjoyable for the kids as well as myself).
It is interesting to see what school used to be like here long ago and how much different it is today in comparison. So for the historical value and comparison, it's worth a visit here once if you're a history buff.
If you're expecting a big museum or a thrilling historical site, you might be disappointed as this was neither to us. But go in with the understanding of what this place is and you'll enjoy it even if for the short amount of time it takes to see it.
You get to take home a free "diploma" at the end of your visit if you wish commemorating your visit.
There is no parking for this site. You have to walk here on the touristy St. George Street.

If you are in St Augustine you should take the time to see this building. An animatronics feature gives a bit of history. It is the original and has not been rebuilt at any time. The teacher and family lived upstairs which is different from any other schoolhouse I know of. The upstairs is not open to visitors, but there is a mirror at the top of the stairs that kind of shows the area. I would have liked to see some information about what subjects were taught in the school. For $5 per person, it was a good little tour and interesting.

This was a pleasant surprise. My wife and I had about 20 minutes to kill before dinner, so we stopped in to check this old schoolhouse out. Being a retired teacher, I especially had an interest in seeing what a teacher’s life was like 200+ years ago. I was not disappointed. I was impressed with the 3 minute presentation given through animatronics ...I think that is what the lady called it. There wasn’t a lot to see, but what there was, was enough for me. Like I said, about 20 minutes worth. I especially had to chuckle over the teacher rules that were promulgated for back then. Glad to see we have made some changes for the better. It only cost $5, so what did I have to lose anyhow? $5, I suppose....but I didn’t.

Save your $5 per person...this is a one room wooden shack. We were literally there for four minutes with our 10 year olds. Not worth the time or the money. The "garden" is a joke. The "diploma" you receive at the end is also a joke.
Another joke was how well the older gentleman was guarding the door to the entrance in case someone slips by! LOL. I think because if you got one peek into what it is, you would turn around.

This was interesting. The buildings are original. You need to start at the back of property then you see the old kitchen building. The schoolhouse is out in front of the kitchen. At the end of the tour, $6.95 each, you receive a diploma from the gift shop.

Even with a dollar off coupon, I thought it was overpriced.
There just isn’t anything to it. The outside of the schoolhouse (which you can see for free from St. George street) is the most impressive part. The show inside with the automated mannequins is distracting. The tiny yard doesn’t have much in it.

This is a very short self guided tour. The school house itself is more interesting when you consider its size and how long it was used. AND that somebody had the foresight to not tear it down to put up another fish and chips place. It was only $5 and well worth it. The statues in the gardens are a good thing to stop by and read the plaque.

I don't know anything about paranormal investigations. If I posted something of that nature, it was merely intended to be restatement of something presented to me as a fact about a place. I prefer to live amongst the living.

I have no idea about paranormal activity. It seemed like quite the normal schoolhouse for the time period to me.
