This "museum" is actually a collection of nine (yes, nine) hsitoric homes dating from 1790 to 1910. They are on their original sites and a most unusual collection of benefactor Mr. Dow who purchased each site as it became available to create a "neighborhood" slice of Americana right in the middle of the oldest city in America. It is a... More

The self-guided tour of the eight houses (1790 to 1940) is quite interesting, but something is lacking ... it seems like a neglected child; furniture often needs dusting for one thing. It has the potential to be a hidden treasure, but work and creativity are needed.

My husband and I visit St. Augustine at least once a year and always visit the Dow. It is a historic and fun way to spend an hour or so during a visit. It is one of the top five items on our to-do list when visiting St. Augustine. The Dow is a step back in time and a really... More

Visited the Dow Museum mid-September and were the only guests there. We had to hunt for someone to take our money, but the woman was very nice once we found her. We spent about an hour and a half leisurely strolling through the homes and enjoyed experiencing the history there. It's a great place for taking pictures, so if that's... More

While the Dow Museum is an interesting concept and has some neat items, our group's ultimate conclusion was that it could be better. It seemed like it had been "let go" a bit. The grounds weren't as kept as we expected for an attraction of this nature. There could have been more history included in the museum, or at least... More

We walked to these houses from our B&B on Cedar Street and it was no problem at all. The houses are grouped in a small area and the tour is self guided. While we enjoyed seeing the oldest homes in the US, we felt there could have been a bit more information about them and the fact that there were... More

The houses, for the most part, were well marked, on this self-guided tour. Some, though, had no description, leading us to wonder about their history. The greeter, whom we paid, and acted as our admission guide, appeared disinterested and unknowledgeable. Although there was a unique guided candlelit tour that we read about, for only two nights, and one that we... More

This museum is a great value. It is a neighborhood of 10 homes dating from the late 1700's to 1910. None have been moved from other environments. They each occupy then space where they were originally built. It is a place to wander, sit and enjoy with the bonus of learning a bit of St Augustine history. Of all the... More
