- Kevin W68 contributionsArrrr! This place is a real treasure! This has to be one of the top two attractions in St Augustine. Everything was very well displayed and told stories about many legendary pirates and some we never knew about. There is a “treasure hunt” that keeps kids interested and the sheer history keeps the adults interested. Highly recommend this place.Wow! This a fantastic compliment! We appreciate your feedback and five star recommendation. Thanks from the entire crew at the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum!Written 30 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 October 2023
- Kimberly K61 contributionsEmployee basically called me fat, but the museum was interesting. The museum itself deserves 5 stars. It was really interesting and interactive. I liked the treasure map you got at the beginning and being able to find hidden items throughout the museum. I also think they have one of the coolest gift shops! We bought a lot of souvenirs there. There is only one major reason I don’t give this place 5 stars: staff. I’m not looking to get anyone in trouble with this, but I think a discussion needs to be had with employees about what is appropriate to say to visitors. I don’t think this employee meant to be rude/hurtful, but she was. We were checking out of the gift shop and one of the women behind the counter asks me, “So when are you having your baby?!” I said, “What?” And she then repeated herself. I then, humiliated, had to tell her, “I’m not pregnant.” She said she was very sorry but that was not a question she should have asked. I am already extremely self-conscious and this was very upsetting. It put a dampener on the rest of the day. Unless someone actually tells you they are pregnant, you don’t say anything, even if you are certain they are. It’s a very sensitive topic for a lot of people. So again, I don’t want to get anyone in trouble because this employee did apologize, but I don’t want anyone else to be hurt with comments like this. It was so embarrassing and upsetting for me. My husband was obviously upset too. This was not something I wanted to hear about my appearance on my honeymoon.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 November 2023
- Ken SMilton, Florida10 contributionsA Museum worthy of Disney!Really a fun museum. Lots of interactive displays where you can actually learn alot about the pirates who plundered early Florida, how they lived on board their ships and their fates. The second half of the museum is devoted to how pirates have been depicted in films and on TV -- also very interesting and probably more entertaining for the kids. Great gift shop, too! I love my skull and crossbones T-shirt!Hi Ken! Thank you for your compliments and detailed review of our museum! - Gare R29 contributionsAuthentic and fun Pirate MuseumThe curator of this museum spent a lifetime collecting artifacts of pirates and their history. He has paints and mannequins depicting real pirates and a brief history of each one. There's lots of weapons on display. Worth the visit since Florida is pirate territory. Buy tickets at the gift shop. Open late so no rush to get to. Lots of bottles and even the saloon cocktail recipes. Fun activityHi there! We truly appreciate this detailed review of our collection! - Linda A8 contributionsThe Pirate Museum, a "MUST DO" in St. AugustineThe Pirate Museum was one of the highlights of our St. Augustine trip. It's wonderful for children and the child in all of us. The exhibits were interesting and creative and even a little gross-out fun. It is chocked full of information on the pirate age. In response to a few negative reviews I've read here, the price of admission was well worth the experience. There was even an interactive game for children to search for pirate clues throughout the museum. I particularly loved that women pirates Mary Read and Anne Bonny were covered. I would have liked to have seen even more on them. The pirate museum doesn't miss a beat, it even covers our connection to pirates through decades of film.Thank you so much for this thoughtful review, Glinda! We are so happy to read that you loved our collection as much as we do. Thank you for recommending us to highly! We saw a guy dressed up as a pirate and he was talking to some school kids and teachers, so we hanged back and listened to him and got a lot of more history of the pirates. To us this museum was great and I I highly recommend this place.Hi Eric! Thanks for visiting us at the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum! - Grace M12 contributionsGreat experienceI totally recommend going to the pirate and treasure museum. When you first walk in you get a treasure map and have to go on a hunt. Find the clues and write them down and at the end you get treasure. The kids had such a blast and learned so much. It's cheaper if you buy your tickets online but overall affordable.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 May 2024
- DavigetaSaint Louis, Missouri1,126 contributionsArrgh- there be pirates!!We visited this museum as our first stop in St Augustine. It was actually interesting, LOTS of information of many famous (and not so famous?) pirates. The exhibits were informative and put things into perspective. Before visiting, I did not know about Red Sea pirates! Some fun stuff here. Touched a treasure chest, saw one of 2 existing Jolly Roger flags, but could not set off the cannon (darn!). - Gary S1 contributionPirate Museum in St Augustine is Great! My wife and I have been to St Augustine several times before. My grandaughter flew down and the dockmaster at our marina recommended the Pirate Museum highly. It is across the street from Castillo de San Marco which we visited early in the day. The Pirate Museum was awesome. Laura checked us in and was great. A perfect mixture of modern presentations and artifacts was very entertaining as well as informative. Interactive maps, animatronics and recordings kept us engaged. The scavenger hunt map had our eyes scanning constantly. Big hit with the grandaughter and us too! Highly recommend it.Hi Gary! - Nicole DRaleigh, North Carolina3 contributionsHighly Recommended!Stopped by on the way up the Florida coast. Parking was a little difficult, but otherwise this was totally worth the entire stop in town. My fiance and I spent about 1.5-2 hours here. We were lucky and walked in right when the pirate, Captain Mayhem, was about to start a tour. He was an incredible character, and very knowledgable. I don't know if tour times are posted or consistent, but I highly recommend trying to go at a time that a tour is taking place. You learn things and are able to ask questions that you would not get by reading the displays alone. This museum would be fun and informative for any age.Hi there! We (four history-loving adults) visited here on Dec. 31 as part of our three days exploring St. Augustine; we had purchased discounted combination tickets online with the Colonial Quarter (reviewed separately).
This was a fun and interesting museum to check out, with nice artifacts and displays on a topic many of us probably know little about beyond popular culture references. As one learns here, piracy was an unfortunate reality of the times (the descriptions of typical “punishments” that were doled out was gruesome). All, in all, it took us about 45 minutes to walk through and see everything. As a history buff, I found it added to my knowledge of the area’s history and of piracy in general. (We did not encounter Captain Mayhem during our visit.)
My only complaint here is that the exhibit areas are small and a bit cramped. It didn’t take too many new visitors entering behind us to crowd the available space, making it hard to linger at exhibits to read all the informational signage, as I wished.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make us a part of your St. Augustine journey - we truly appreciate it! It's true, we don't have a lot of space to feature the 800+ artifacts and exhibits throughout our museum, but I am glad to read that you found a lot of history to learn about and enjoy.
Thank you again for bringing your crew to spend a while with ours - we hope to see you again on your next visit to the Nation's Oldest City!

This is a fine museum for someone that is more into pirates than my husband and myself. It seemed over priced for what we got out of it. Oh well, at the very least it was something different than we’ve been to before. There is not parking at the museum, you have to pay to park in the public lots, so make sure to spend some time checking out all the area has to offer.

Two adults visited this attraction on a Wednesday afternoon in early January. We spent about three hours but we like to read all the descriptions, and there were a lot of them. Also, there were many interactive exhibits telling the stories of famous pirates.
Note that many but certainly not all of the museum exhibits require reading in order to get the most out of them.
An enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. Plus this time of year, they're open until 7pm, whereas most other attractions in town close around 5pm.

It was pouring so I thought I would explore this museum while waiting for the clouds to depart. I wouldn't say that I am a huge pirate fan but I was impressed with the museum layout and would go through it again if I found myself in St. Augustine with different friends. I really enjoyed the treasure hunt game that you have the opportunity of playing after you pay the admission fee. . This little game slowed me down enough to read more display boards than I normally would have thereby adding more time to my visit. Word of advice - be prepared for a lot of children and plan on spending about an hour here.

The museum self guided tour took us an hour and twenty minutes and was time well spent. The tour included many stations and display cases of weapons, salvaged treasure, and pirate artifacts, including one of only 3 existing "jolly roger" pirate flags in the world. A replica gun deck of a pirate ship provided the visitor with a glimpse of pirate life. One station had a digital book that described the lives and deaths of many infamous pirates such as Blackbeard, Henry Morgan, Black Bart, Stede Bonnet, Anne Bonney, and Capt. Kidd. One of the artifacts displayed was Captain Kidd's engraved treasure chest! You have the opportunity to pick up a salvaged gold bar as well. If you are a senior, you get in for $12.99. Very enjoyable!

Our group of 7 were all adults, and did the self-guided wandering around tour. Lots of displays and interactive screens seemed to engage all ages there. We liked reading about each pirate, and life on a ship. The artifacts from the era are numerous and include more than we expected.
There was a guided tour by a character in costume available every couple of hours. Call for times. Ramp entrance available for easy access.

Thank you for coming to see us! We're glad that you were able to enjoy both the educational and entertaining aspects of the museum as you took the self-guided tour through our exhibition. It's true that we do offer a pirate-guided tour 4 times on Saturdays (1030AM, Noon, 130PM, and 3PM) and on various dates throughout the year.

This is a serious look at the importance of the Golden Age of pirates. Many artifacts and replicas combine with interpretations to give this history its due. There are also good connections to search and salvage efforts that have given us a much more real view of this time. The museum is designed to be enjoyable as well as informative as you imagine to walking around on a pirate ship or visiting an island and you even get a story from the head of Blackbeard but the history is not lost. Visit this museum so you can have fun and learn at the same. Don’t we wish school was more like that!

My 6 and 9 year old liked the treasure hunt going through the museum, but once that was over they were bored. I think we were through the museum in 20-30 minutes. the gift shop was more exciting for them, ha, and it was very small and packed with people checking in. i thought it was overpriced for how quickly we were able to go through it.

We visited on a cold day where we wanted to do ANYTHING inside. We found this museum along our walk and gave it a shot. Not only do you get to go into a really cool, interactive, museum with endless pirate history, but you can also participate in a scavenger hunt. We had a lot of fun. Definitely recommend.

Our Grandsons are 9 and 11. We did all of the places of interests in St. Augustine. This was our favorite! The museum is authentic and has great history and artifacts, take the time to go through it and read the displays. An excellent pirate garbed guide entered and offered a tour, if you get this opportunity take it! He shared a wealth of knowledge and kept the kids of all ages entertained as well. I wish we would have gotten his name, long white hair and beard, great deep voice, well spoken and pirate expert. We would do this again!

Hello, can you accommodate someone on an electric mobility device, or do you have wheelchairs available?
Written 20 January 2019
I did not see any wheelchairs available. It might be a little tight for an electric mobility device. I would call them and ask how they feel about it.
Written 21 January 2019
Do they do the pirate tour every day? and at what times do they start?
Written 27 May 2018
This is a self-guided tour through a museum. It's open everyday (I'm sure there are exceptions for Easter and Christmas). For an additional fee you can also tour the Colonial Village.
Written 22 January 2019
If I remember correctly it was not long, you can do the tour which was maybe a half hour maybe 45min, but well worth the tour. Or you can just go look through the museum on your own!

This may be a dumb question, but are pets allowed? I have an ESA (canine) that is under 15 lbs, is quiet, and can be in a bag/carrier the entire time.
Written 6 September 2016
They may not permit the dog, only because the artifacts are so rare and ancient they take a lot of precautions in protecting them. I would recommend calling ahead and double checking. The staff is friendly and it won't feel like a dumb question. Goodluck.

In regards to parking? Where and how much does it cost?
Written 30 March 2015
If you come early in the day you can usually park across the street at the Castillo de San Marcos parking lot which is metered. I believe it's $1.00 per hour. If you are doing other things downtown you can park at the parking garage all day for $12. It's a short walk from the garage to the Pirate Museum. I hope we see you soon!
Written 31 March 2015
Thanks for the enquiry! Our admission prices are $12.99 for adults, $6.99 for kids between 5-12 (4 and under free) $9.99 for seniors 62 yrs and up. We hope to see you soon!
