On the way to St Augustine on A1A decided to stop to check it out, they had an activity celebrating Earth day and what great experience, they had many exhibits and recreations of the era, was not able to take the boat ride to the fort, but the experience overall was good.

This is a great fort. If you can visit only a few places in St. Augustine, make the fort one of them. While there walk the grounds and also inside the fort. The walls are very thick and it's interesting to see all the different areas. My kids loved the fort when they were small and now are taking their... More

This is a cool place, very worthwhile to check out.Visior cener is nice and you get a free boat ride across the river to the fort...although small ,its very much 'the real thing'. Not a tourist trap. Guides were excellent, you can climb to the top of the fort for a cool view. the area near the river has good... More

This fort is awesome! Take time to go in and walk around, READ ALL THE INFO PLACKARDS. There is so much history here. Plus what it is actually made from is ingenious! Go up onto the walls to get great views all around, including St. Augustine.

I had no idea this Fort was that old. How they cold have built it way back when is hard to imagine. Than to build it to last well over 450 year of hurricanes and weather and the like is unbelievable. It's hard to get your mind around something in America this old

This fort is a must see at St. Augustine. The NPS has set it up to teach visitors about the history of the fort and the area. The views of the sound are amazing. Seniors can use their Golden eagle pass for free access.

The very small visitors center is open. The ferry that takes you to the Ft is not running. Hurricane Matthew destroyed the expensive metal and concrete dock so the boat can't take you to the Fort. The old wooden dock at the Fortwas not damaged. At the time of this visit it has been 6 months and no work has... More

The guides did a good job explaining why the fort was under so many countries. A great education! They have done a fine job restoring the artifacts.

This was a nice visit to Fort Matanzas. It starts out with a short boat ride to the fort, and continues with an interesting narrative from a park ranger. You are then free to walk around, and go through the fort. Very good views from up top. This attraction is for all ages, and the best part...........it's free.

The ferry has been closed since October 2016. There is not much else here besides a short nature trail. If that's what you're interested in, skip this place and continue five miles to Washington Oaks Gardens State Park which has superior trails and water views. I think a lot of people are confusing this site with the one in St.... More
