We've been to a number of forts before, but this is the first time we realized that there were a string of forts established along the east and gulf coast of the United States prior to the Civil War. We had a guided tour by...More

It was a bit too long to walk with our small grandchildren. But they loved it even though they were to short to see some things. The map was great in figuring out where to go or not go. It was very warm, so take...More

Decided to take the kiddos here due to all the great reviews. A lot of history and a really nice fort. I would suggest wearing tennis shoes and definitely taking a bottle of water especially during summer. We truly enjoyed the forts at one point...More

This is the most well preserved fort that I have ever visited. There are so many different hallways to explore in this fort. It seems like every part of it is open to the public to explore. It has an amazing and rich history to...More

Visited the fort on vacation. We love history so we had to stop here. It's amazing. You wouldn't believe how large this fort and the advance redoubt are. The passages at the fort are unending, you don't know what's around the next corner. Nicely preserved...More

Everyone should learn about the history of our country and one way to learn about it is to see it. Go.

Plan on at least 1 hour to walk the fort. You kids will love the fort. The ranger was very helpful. There is dress up uniform for the kids to try on both rebel and yankee.

A lot of forts that I've been to aren't as well preserved as this one. It's a nice chunk of history you can look out without having to use to much imagination

I went to both in the same day they are an hour apart and I would definitely choose Fort Pickens. The drive there is beautiful and worth the trip but a little long. Fort Barrancas is on a military base and a little hard to... More

Yes, there is but it's an "iron ranger". Its the honor system to put in your money.
