Cool Neighborhood

I swung by the house as a long time resident of Orlando. There is a historical marker and a sign on the door saying it is not open to the public. The house is a nice older home, but not much else. It does have some historical significance, but you can't really learn about that history or experience it at... More

The house isn't much. It's just a small, regular house located on some suburban streets. It's nice neighborhood. Pretty quiet. It's an operating writers retreat so they like to keep things quiet. Apparently you can ask to see inside and if it's cool at that time they'll let ya take a peek, I didn't bother. It seemed interesting to me... More

Was with my pre-teen daughter who is not yet familiar with this author. We live in Orlando, so it was on my 'things to do list'. I did not contact anyone prior so we did not go into the house. We just drove by but it was nice to see the part of town he lived in for awhile. There... More

Not much to look at from the outside, but what else would one expect from Keroiac, who was not a flashy person, and who had little in the way of means at the time. The good people at the Kerouac Project of Orlando try to be accommodating for a look inside if you contact them in advance, and donations to... More

After seeing these reviews, we decided to visit Jack Kerouac House in April 2013. But the house looked like a normal house, no sign, nothing. We did not want to disturb by taking a picture, if there's ordinary people living there, so we left there without getting out of the car. We were really looking forward to seeing Kerouac's house,... I visited this small house in North Orlando (WIkipedia falsely lists it was Winter Park) and took a few pictures. Jack lived here with his Mother in his 1920 small house in a backside apartment where he wrote the Dharma Bums. It wa here he got word that On The Road was a super hit, the voice of the beat...
