I was surprised that a property of this age was free and also unstaffed. The parking is just on the lane outside the property, you walk through the gate and there it is. You can wander around the property and up the spiral staircase to...More

Something bizarre about parking in a country lane and walking into a 13th century manor house without any ticketing procedure. That's it, you just walk in and explore. Some local historians have put together some explanatory information and we must commend the NT and EH...More

Old Soar Manor is a bit of a maze for the GPS to find, but we asked here and there and eventually found our way to an extremely rustic setting totally appropriate to the nature of this site itself. If you relish curious little historic...More

This is a quiet experience. The Manor is tucked away in a quiet moment of Kent. The surrounding countryside is just lovely but the Manor is an exceptional joy. Just sit in the silence of the hall and feel the long centuries quietly chatting to...More

Like a few others have said, it is a hidden gem - I copied the title ! It’s not the easiest place to find, not far from main roads as the crow flies but quite difficult to find along minor roads. It’s worth it though....More

A very interesting building in a lovely part of Kent. Close to Ightham Mote so easy to double up on both National Trust properties. This one should only take 30 - 40 mins to look round and read the boards. I liked it and learnt...More

Has nothing usually found in National Trust places , no Tea Room , staff or toilets but well worth a visit if interested in History. Free to enter with good information boards detailing the dwellings history back to 1290. Also some historical references to Plaxtol...More

We visited here on our way to Emmetts Garden. This place is lovely, we were the only ones there. It's down a lane with a few other houses around but it's so quite and peaceful. Inside the first little room are Info boards telling you...More

Driving through narrow lanes, this manor was a hidden gem. No airs or graces but good information boards as you walk in. Walking up the narrow, steep stairs, you could almost feel the history through the walls.

This place is tucked away down some very narrow lanes. Very quiet, we were the only ones there! Interesting local history in the room downstairs and then you climb up to the first floor rooms.
