When you park in the parking area at Blue Spring State Park you will immediately see a large white house with wrap-around porch. It's between the parking area and the Blue Spring, with an expansive grassy area in front and many enormous live oaks, dripping...More

The Thursby House shows a typical house of the time and if you are in the Blue Springs park, you might as well walk through. There is a good written history there which provides a backdrop for your walk along the spring.

A lot of people don't even see this house when they are at Blue Springs Park. It sits on a little rise in the middle of a field by the woods as you walk down the trail to the water landing and playground area. It...More

Restored estate near the headwaters of Blue Spring. You can walk through the home with lots of period furniture and items from its establishment in the 1870's. Originally a home to a ferry stop on the St John's River from Jacksonville, it was a key...More

The Springs and river are beautiful. It was also incredible getting a little history lesson along the way. I’m not sure how other visitors were able to enter the Thursby house as I was yelled at by the “homeowner” for taking a picture of a...More

Nice self guided tour with plenty of posted articles to read about the family. We went on a Thursday and it was not crowded. Wear comfortable shoes as you walk through the grass to get there and the steps are slippery when wet.

If you are at the park, stop at the house and read about the history. It's just incredible to think about people forging a life in the steamy, hot summers of Florida in the 19th century.

The house only offers a self conducted tour. The upstairs is cordoned off and can't be accessed. There is some information in each room, but there is no furniture except for the small stoves used for heating. There were some things in the kitchen and...More

This very impressive residence was built in 1872, by a Louis P Thursby. It is pretty much settled that he arrived at the site in 1856. Most accounts state that he first built a log cabin to house his family. However, one apparently credible source...More

Not much to see really just some furniture and pictures and a stocked kitchen. Sat on the rocker outside waiting for my brother in law who is more into these things than I am.

Sure wish there was more to see from the time period other than just pictures. The kitchen was well stocked with those items. We were only able to see the one floor also. So whoever said it was haunted & mentioned the second floor was...More
