This park is one of the hidden secrets of central Florida. As you drive down the main park road you feel like you are in a part of Florida that is still in the 19th century. There is nothing but wide open space between the horizons. There are few trees in this dry prairie. There is only one road in... More

I enjoy all sorts of camping from backpacking to car camping to RVing. My first visit to Kissimmee Prairie was in July and I was prepared to backpack out to the primitive camping site and enjoy the beauty. We set up camp by 6 in time for a thunderstorm and were able to be back out on the trail to... More

We enjoy RVing at the prairie...the wildlife is unbelievable and with the campground empty the deer, turkey, owls, opossum, raccoon, hawks can be seen right from you site. Yes in July it is HOT!! but their was a breeze everyday that make it enjoyable to sit outside and wait for the next visitor. Another thing the summer rains have made... More

We went in the hottest part of the summer but still managed to get a breeze. Campsites in heavily treed areas are nice. But the real attraction for us was the dark sky at night. The park is a certified "Dark Sky Preserve". The Milky Way was beautiful rising from the east and you can see 100x the stars out... More

"In December 2015, Kissimmee Prairie Preserve was recognized at Florida's first Dark Sky Park by the International Dark Sky Association." That is good news for you Kissimmee Prairie Preserve Park. Now the bad news! *Please note that the entrance is closed daily 15 minutes after sunset. Why do you make it so difficult to enjoy this benefit of the park?... More

My wife and I camped her for my birthday and the view was spectacular! Of course my birthday has to be in May, so it's very hot, but worth it. Plenty of the site's are shaded, which would be the best to chose to keep out of the sun, but at night the stars are amazing. Several shooting stars streaked... More

We spent four days in the campground of this out of the way State Park. It was a welcome break from the traffic in other parts of Florida. The campground is quite small, only about 30 sites. We stayed in the Family Loop. There are lots of big live oak trees for shade. It was also very close to the... More

Remote south central Florida State Park/Preserve: wonderful. Excellent wildlife opportunities. Excellent campground facilities. Limited number of camping/RV sites which is not a bad thing. Make your reservations and go prepared with what you need/want as it is a long drive out. The Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park Guided Buggy Tours are an exceptional way to see and learn about the... More
