Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

This Audubon property is a gem. The 2.25 miles of board walk takes you through a number of different types of sub-tropical areas from old forest to new forest to lakes region plus a couple of more. If you can make it at the crack of dawn, you're likely to have the best critter viewing. We watched an alligator swimming... More

We loved the scenery and the wildlife. We didn't wear camouflage and our brightly colored clothes were scarring away the animals.

Once a month they are open in the evening, the hour and a half before sunset is a good time to see wildlife. Usually the deeper into the swamp the more you see. Do take the short side walks, they are there for a reason. On one of them we saw painted buntings! There are almost always ibises, egrets, and... More

What a nice 2 + mile walk. I thought it was expensive , $12.00 per person. No maps except in the $3.00 book you could buy (which we did). It is dry there right now, as is southern FL I guess. Not swampy at all. We were told in that case go to the right past the lettuce lakes to... More

We sometimes take out of town guests to get a real feel of the beauty of the area. Take a long walk on the boardwalk, or short. Make sure you have a camera; the shots are memorable.

2.25 mile boardwalk through a wonderful wilderness preserve. I'd suggest bringing some bottled water and perhaps even a snack. Taking your time looking at nature takes approximately 2 hours. If you are bringing children consider taking the "short cut" route as this brings you to the wetland sections which is home to many turtles, crocs, as well as herons and... More

Well the admission was $14 pp. We were half way thru the walk before we saw any wildlife. Then for about a half mile we saw alot. Alligator, turtle, limpkin, herons, egrets, ibis, etc. Then nothing for the last quarter mile. The only reasons I'm critical is that I have access to the Green Cay nature center in Boynton Beach, FL.... More

Tranquil and breathtaking vegetation in the heart of SW Florida. Opens out to one of the best stretches of beach in all Florida.

For us, this was one of those places you visit because it sounds interesting, has things you're almost sure to enjoy, and then it becomes one of those special memories that will always stay with you. Take a guided tour! Even if you are from the area and may be more aware of some of the animals and habitat, the... More
