Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I liked the place. I stayed at Four Points by Sheraton Desaru. Comfortable stay with very nice breakfast. Visited fruit farm, Desaru beach and walk around. As an Indian i always face issue with food. Luckily got Indian vegetarian food at Lotus resort. Their restaurant Lotus spice is very good. Had a nice time at Desaru. We went there from Singapore in car. It took nearly 2 hours to drive to Desaru from JB immigration. Well spend the Chinese New Year holidays.

I was so disapointed by this beach: I went with my friends and our 4 kids and it absolutely impossible to swim there. the waves and the curent are too strong, the water sports are starting from the beah, which make it unsafe for other people; the beach is not that clean, the food and drinks of the beach bar below average...

I have been surfing in Desaru for a few times and thought it would be good for me to share this.
Not many people are aware of this surf spot. Majority of the surfers I see were the locals, and a handful of Singaporeans like me.
Recently, a beach shack was set up on the Desaru public beach. Run by Sari, who's an experienced surfer himself, and also an excellent host to his customers. You can get surf board rentals at 80 RM for a full day, or 40 RM for half day rental (less than 4 hours).
Besides board rental, the shack serves as a venue for beach goers to sit around for a drink or two. And surfers will gather around after the sessions. It made me felt like I'm part of the community when I'm there.
For the more adventurous, the beach shack does provide tents and hammocks rental for overnight stays, priced at about 10 RM per night.
This could be heaven for beach lovers, and city dwellers who wants to go back to nature.
The downside would be the lack of luxury. Public toilet is located at a distance (about 100m away). And it is located at the further end away from the beach entrance. But as you walk further in, you can spot this paradise by its striking red and yellow facade.

Entrance fee is Rm6.00. The surrounding was beautiful. It's nice to walk along the beach. It's clean and no garbage lying around.

The so called private beach next to Westin is well maintained and clean. Hardly see any rubbish around. Maybe cos it's a private beach. Towel counter not opened when we got there around 10am. Has to get it from the front desk.

What a tranquil and serene beach! Glad we took the hour and a half car ride here after visiting the Fruits Farm on the way there. Bought many fresh cut fruits all at only RM2/- per packet on packed ice. The Farm is run by a friendly proprietor named Richard. He has a shop selling souvenirs, fruits and nicknacks. Worth a visit. Had wanted to stay at the chalet as price was reasonable at RM 275 per night. Take a look at these photos we took as a reminder:

If you want to have a nice clean beach around here, then u should come here. Compared to tg balau and batu layar, desaru is much worth it although you need to pay Rm4 per entry. The view is great, toilet is just ok,the sand is great for kids to play and build sandcastle.

As at end of June 2020, the public beach remains closed (since the beginning of MCO in March). Only hotel guests have access to their respective hotel beaches.

Does anyone offer snorkling tours from Desaru to some Island near by? A half or a full day trip would be ok.
Written 15 October 2019
If you like snorkling, try to go to the nearby island, for example:pulau tioman, pulau besar and pulau sibu. Pulau means island in local language.

Hi . Is there any camp site in the area ? Or any beach area that I can park my camper?
Written 25 June 2018
The car park is big. But if you are trying to hook your camper up to electricity and water, no such facilities.
