We braved the heat and the humidity and survived! We saw wild horses, a few gators and several different species of birds. We went through the north entrance and didn't see as much as we would have like, but will definitely return in the fall...More

If you're in the Gainesville area you must go. Take your friends/family if they come to visit you. At the observation point, I saw two alligators. To get into the Payne's Prarie area, it's $6 per car. So, carpool if you can.

You MIGHT be able to see one from the Observation Tower by the Visitors Center. We were up there yesterday and saw 2 wild horses. You would need very strong binoculars. We may have seen a bison, but too far away to tell.
