My firlfriend and I were very excited about visiting this museum as part of our turist itinerary during our Miami Beach trip. Unfortunatly, it all went wrong from the beginning, we went in 15 min. ago and asked for two tickets to the person at the front desk, this guy mumble something super fast which we couldn't understand that had to do with some floors being closed. So, when we asked if he could please tell us again that information, we replyed in a very rude manner like making fun of us in a very mean way because us weren't understanding. It was absolutely ridiculous as we might not be native english speakers but are stil super fluent and never have a problem whatsoever comunicating in english whenever we travel. To be honest the situation even felt a bit racist, maybe he is just an extremly rude person who hates his job. This person should understand that a lot of turists no native speakers are going to be visiting the museum and should show some respect to them and try to be helpul if they are having a little trouble understanding the language even though in this case it wasn't really about the language (but about his way of just mumbling the words with no energy like he doesn't care enough), probably even a native english speaker would have been difficult to understand him anyway. So we decided to cancel the payment of the tickets and leave tellong him how we weren't feel welcome and his attitude was unacceptable. When we told him so he didn't seem to care at all and not even say sorry or anything. Very disappointing as we really wanted to see this museum but now don't feel of coming back anytime soon.

I wanted to like this museum. It belongs to my Alma Mater and I lived within two blocks of it. The space is tremendous, and it had an impressive light show entrance. I went there twice and the collections (both the permanent and the featured) were just okay. You see this impressive "art fortress" style building and assumed that the exhibits would be worthy of the space and they were not. Part of me feels like I should give it another chance as the next collection they feature may be more worthy of praise, but how many chances am I going to give it.
If you are in South Beach already, and you are done with the Beach its worth a trip. But it is not worth traveling to South Beach for it. You can see everything they have in maybe 40 mins. So if its hot, and you need to get out of the sun for an hour, give it a chance.

Especially if you are a collector, the Wolfsonian is an amazing collection of one man's interests, with a focus on Art Deco in furnishings and everyday objects. It is particularly special to see the handicraft of these objects up close. Interesting to note Mr. Wolfson began his pension for collecting by starting with a Key from a Paris hotel. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon exploring this museum!

Can't say enough good things about this museum. Really interesting and eclectic collection of art and objects from the 20th century, well-organized and with placards that add to rather than detract from the experience. If you're interested in Art Deco, mid-century modernism, and/or propaganda, check it out.

This is not a curated museum so much as a private eclectic collection.
Much is art deco making it ideal to be located in Miami with it's art deco buildings.
The quality of the exhibits is very good and will include excellent examples of furniture and a collection of hotel keys from the days before a piece of plastic magnetic card was the norm.
This is well worth a visit if you have any interest at all in design.

Superb collection and very diverse. Illustrations, retro kitchen gear, furniture, art work, paintings, and sculptures. Highly recommend this place. Also it's not overwhelming to go through - I got to explore all the floors in about 2 hours.

The Wolfsonian is the brain child of Micky Wolfson, who started not only this museum, but another like it in Genoa Italy.
The museum is unlike most others. It focuses more on art and design from the period from about 1850 to 1950. You are unlikely to see works by Manet or Van Gogh, but it does have countless artistic design items ranging from posters to furniture to unusual objects. The exhibits change every few months, so the exact things on display will vary as well.
The building itself is historic and they have added many design elements, such as a cool Art Deco elevator and many others. The museum is currently undergoing a renovation and expansion. You can still see two floors of displays, but some of the items are on floors that are undergoing construction. When the construction is done, there will also be a display library of sorts for visitors.
The current exhibition focuses on the idea of aerial views, which would have come into being mostly after the invention of the airplane. The exhibition includes vintage posters, futuristic (for the early 1900s) versions of what might come, and many cool objects. One mural/large painting depicts Miami around 1920, with emphasis on new developments that are now around a century old. Another is an enormous globe chandelier with fun elements that include mermaids. The exhibits are artistically designed so you won't just be looking at objects in cases or hanging on a wall.
Take a look at the ceiling on the top floor. It looks like it came out of a medieval castle, but it's really from an automobile dealership. You can tell because elements like wheels and steering wheels are part of the design.
The Wolfsonian is a very easy walk from Ocean Drive and the center of Miami's Art Deco district. It's a fun stop and you will certainly see things you have never seen before.

Very unique small museum in art deco building (in art deco section of Miami). My husband and I really enjoyed this small museum and especially two of the current exhibits Plotting Power: Maps & the Modern Age and Turn the Beat Around. Beautiful displayed and curated exhibits with excellent descriptions. We spent about two hours while it was pouring rain outside and had a really nice time at this museum. The coffee in the coffee shop was very good and they have a really nice gift shop too. Purchased a gift for a friend and some Jewlery for myself.

Almost nothing on display. There was a small exhibition of contemporary art on the 7th floor, one room of anti-fascist stuff on the third, and the lobby. The elevator was programmed to skip floors 2,4,5 and 6. None of the things pictured here… the furniture, decore, etc. were on display. Very disappointing.

Quaint and quirky museum well worth a short visit, highlighting the idiosyncratic collection of Micky Wolfson. It has a delightful shop on the ground floor. Don't bother however to try to schedule a tour; the staff doesn't answer emails or tour requests, or answer the telephone. or return phone calls. You are pretty much on your own at the Wolfsonian.
