I have cycled in this area for the past 22 years and now they charge to enter. There is the historic ruin of Captains Horr's house which is now no longer accessible due to more damage after Hurricane Irma.

The now destroyed plantation is located with a gated community of Key Marco. The security will let you in but they do take your drivers licences info but you enter. About 1 1/2 miles down a nicely landscaped private drive with some homes probably starting...More

We visited this house (or what’s left of it) last week. About half of it is now on the ground. I suspect from the last hurricane. It is interesting to see but there is not much there and we instructed to not get out of...More

A pleasant drive to see how the "other half" (more like 1%!) lives. Being so sheltered there is a good chance you'll see raccoons during the day as well as gopher tortoises.

Homes in here are amazing, we were looking for the gopher turtles which were supposed to be abundant but never saw one there. They can be seen at other places on the island as well as burrowing owls.

Key Marco is a gated island community off San Marco Road on Marco Island. It now consists of multi-million dollar homes with the exception of Captain Horr's old Plantation home. The walls are still standing and it is designated as a State Historic Site. As...More

I wouldn't make a special trip to see these ruins of the former home of Captain Horr. As far as the Pineapple Plantation.....it does not exist.....it's nothing but overgrown vegetation with an occasional turtle sighting. The development that you ride through to get to the...More
