Beautiful reef!

We went to sombrero reef with Starfish Snorkeling when we visited Marathon. It is a beautiful reef with lots of fish, and marine life, coral and plant life. Highly recommended.

There were lots of sea grass on the beaches. We noticed some kids were snorkeling. The beach area is not roomy so we didn't stay long as there were lots of people. We live in Florida and while the Florida Keys is a nice place to visit, the beaches are not the best in the state....like Destin, Siesta Key, Cayo... More

Nature at its best. This was a very colorful visit with all the sea life that we got to see. Water temperature was perfect and the seas were calm. This old lighthouse has been repurposed as a snorkeling reef and a protected area for marine species. Make it a part of your visits and go snorkeling.

We rented a pontoon boat and rode out to the reef. The weather was fantastic and the Atlantic Ocean was great.

I am a local to the keys, and I definitely recommend this reef to anyone visiting! I've been to the reef many of times and I am enamored by the beauty each time. This reef is protected and has so many different types of ocean life. Great for snorkeling, Snuba, and Diving! The only downside is the typical mass amounts... More

Spent a 1/2 day snorkeling out on the reef. It was $25 each. Just incredible. Several snorkeling boats leave from Marathon. We went in April, the water was warm and the tropical fish were abundant. Nice scenic boat ride out to the reef. We all wore flotation vests while snorkeling to make it easier. It was a fun day....cant wait... More

Very good spot for snorkeling and very manageable, regardless of level or ability. Depending on winds, waves can be challenging, so attention to weather conditions is encouraged.

Actually, Sombrero Beach is the only beach you can go, get some tan, and swimim nicely around. The water is a bit cold but the beach is beuatiful and the water is amazing. You may also see some dolphins around as well.

If you are looking for something do do while down here you should definitely consider taking a boat ride out to this location and maybe even get on a snorkel or some scuba gear. The are is well protected and so beautiful.
