Lots of great information and a moving tribute to those lost in the worst hurricane recorded in early Keys' history.

Easy to miss as the monument is quite small and there are no real signposts around. Interesting to read up on the history of this terrible hurricane and the damage it caused. Nice monument.

Back before Huuricanes were given names, the 1935 hurricane that hit the Keys wrecked tremendous havoc, death, and devastation. This monument and memorial on Upper Matecumbe Key is a 5-10 minute stop that provides information about both the hurricane and its aftermath. The cremains of many of the 400 people who lost their lives during the storm are entombed under... More

This monument is easy to miss if you are not looking for it...in fact, even my GPS missed it! It is full of history regarding the Labor Day hurricane and the tragedy it caused. Worth a stop if you have time.

We visited the city one weekend and happened to drive by this monument and stop. The amazing story here is one everyone should read about. Don't miss it when you are here. It only takes a minute but it is worth it. The fact that this is kept up to this day is awesome.

We were walking by & stopped to read the information on the monument. (Another there let us know there was more on the other side of the monument.) Doesn't take long to visit and the history lesson well worth it.

The monument is right nest to the road and it is nice to stop and pay your respects. If the traffic is light it is well worth it, but during peak hours getting back into traffic is frustrating.

Just decided to stop as were going by. Only takes a few minutes to gain some perspective and pay your respects to the victims of this 1935 disaster.
