Wear crocks(if not wearing swim fins) for the first 5-10 feet through the coarse coral/sand. Sandy & very shallow out to the old breakwall that is perpendicular to the wharf. We had no problems finding parking. Restaurant, rental services for unbrellas, snorkeling equipment & a...More

I was in Key West Jan. 3-6 and during this time I visited Higgs Beach. This was a very beautiful beach, but be very aware of your surroundings. My friend and I, both 20 yr old females decided to walk down the beach a little...More

This is the second best beach in Key West. Get there early to avoid the crowds and the heat. The waters are very warm and you can go out 30 feet on sand bar and still be waist deep (Long shelf). The area is clean...More

This beach is great for adults and . Sunbeds and parasols to rent at very reasonable prices from friendly and helpful lady. She even has kids toys to borrow for free. Can also hire paddleboards. Good restaurant/bar at back of beach. Shallow, safe water.

Beautiful water, warm water! Oh man this beach is so great, not too crowded and technically open until 11 pm. The pier is fantastic too. I hung out there a few hours and did some landscape drawings. I stayed nearby and walked to it every...More

This beach is more convenient to Old Town than Smathers-and it smells a little better. It also has the African Graves and AIDS memorial. It was very crowded during the 4th of July week.

We really enjoyed Higgs Beach with our pet Pomsky pup. This dog-friendly beach has free parking, a tiny bit of shade (near the memorial) and is just a skip across the street from the dog park. We got to go out on our paddle board...More

This beach offers a pavilion, showers, bathrooms and beach and umbrella rentals, which is not offered at many beaches in Key West. And, although small, it is still one of the biggest public beaches. White Street pier is very close, an has all sorts of...More

One must remember Key West doesn’t really have a typical Florida beach- it’s not Destin or Panama City folks. There is coral and rocks but Higgs is nice for what they have made it. You can rent chairs if you desire and there are several...More

This beach smelled absolutely disgusting. There were homeless people sleeping there. There was no "real" beach to speak of. No soft sand to sink your toes into .... we could not leave fast enough.
