This is an excellent stop for birdwatchers while taking a stroll on a wooden boardwalk pathway. We did see an alligator sunning on the raft built for the wildlife. The walk is easy and level with an opportunity for a few short cuts. The total path is not much more than a mile with a lot of opportunity to stop... More

Don't go there. It is almost a secret treasure especially when the heat is not oppressive. Walk slowly and look around at everything. Watch the birds and reptiles (snakes and alligators) in a natural habitat. Listen to the guides or read the posted signs about the wildlife there. Not everything needs to be fast paced to be enjoyed. This is... More

I live close and walk its boardwalk several times a year. I would be happy if fewer visitors knew about it, but I need to be honest and say it is a jewel of nature in the middle of the Fort Myers metropolis.

Every time we visit Ft Myers (usually once a year), the Slough is on our list. For the price of parking, you can spend a whole afternoon wandering the many boardwalks through the Slough. The walk is easy, and there are longer and shorter routes. We've seen the requisite alligators, wild pigs, many varieties of birds, snakes, turtles and other... More

We did a couple of nature preserves in the area and this by far was the best. A boardwalk trail made the walk easy. In fact there is no running or power walking allowed. Even if there was, you would miss everything to see. Hawks perched in trees over the trail, a woodpecker hammering away, a snake curled up in... More

The Slough is a gorgeous walk on a gorgeous day! We saw lots of turtles and alligators. The blue sky was just a bonus to my photography.

Although Southwest Florida is famous for white sandy beaches and fun shelling, Six Mile Cypress Slough offers a different view of our tropical paradise. A hike through the slough offers several miles of boardwalk that extends out over the dense cypress swamp. One can enjoy bird watching, searching for rare epiphytes, photographing points of interest or any number of nature... More

Brother's family and I went here for something to do and get a little exercise since they said trails. We didn't expect much but we're surprised and actually spent a few hours there. You have to pay for parking ($1. An hr/$5.) but it includes admission into the museum and center and trails. Seems to be wheelchair accessible and bathrooms... More

Had plans for a different stop but missed the exit so we decided to stop here. Glad we did. We were on a time crunch so we only had 1 hour to walk through the area. Would recommend a couple of hours to walk at a leisurely pace. Only downfall was people who can't read...keep your young children under control... More

This nature walk is awesome! The variety of wild birds is great. We have seen: snakes curled up in the bark of trees, wild boar, alligators, and sooo many birds. There are different spots to read information about nature, animals, etc. I go as often as I can. I love it!
