Tripadvisorā€™s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was an extremely nice museum. There were very interesting and unusual exhibits about the area. If you enjoy museums it's worth a visit.

Cute museum in what used to be the county jail. We did a self guided tour. It was fun and informative. The staff was very helpful and willing to answer any questions.

Wife and I visited Amelia Island for 1 day and wanted to learn some of the history of the area, this was a great place to do so. Lots of info found on the local history if you do a self guided tour, but they offer a couple of docent led tours each day, and I'd suggest you call ahead and find out the times and schedule you visit then. Tour was about 1 hour and the docent did an excellent job tying all the history together. Not just a 'rainy day' thing to do, I recommend for anyone interested in the history of the area.

For the price, the actual self-guided tour was a huge disappointment. No military or senior citizen discounts - the comment was there were too many military and senior folks in the area and if the museum gave discounts, they would be out of business. The history itself is interesting and the layout of the museum is informative, but for the price of $8 a person, you should save yourself the money, especially if it's a nice day.

Weā€™re very sorry you were disappointed with your experience. We offer guided tours of the museum at 11 am and 2 pm Monday-Saturday and 2 pm on Sunday, which is covered in the price of admission. We do offer discounts for active military and for children. The vast majority of our visitors are seniors, so we do not offer discounts for them. We do offer Free Friday Hours every Friday from 4 pm ā€“ 6 pm.

Surprisingly detailed history of the island and surrounding area set out well in a number of rooms, made even better by a free talk by a very well-informed local person, Lynda. Very friendly and helpful staff, inexpensive too. Well worth a visit which enhanced our appreciation of the area.

Last year a visit to the museum was a rainy day choice. We were surprised by the quality of displays and the details we learned about the island. Well worth a visit - even on a sunny day.

$8 and well worth it. This museum is located in what used to be the County jail....complete with former cell as part of the history. Well illustrated and documented history of the area's centuries of various rulers and flags that flew over the island.

Even a separate area that kids can play with seafaring gizmos and dress up for photos.

We chose to here because of rain in the area. This really covers a lot of great history about the island and was educational to see how it affected the rest of the country.

Museums can be daunting but this one was perfectly scaled to understand the history and culture of Amelia island. Worth a visit for a thorough and thoughtful understanding of the area.
