Beautiful, quiet beach

It was the season for Portuguese Man-O-Wars which were everywhere on the beach but it is nice and relatively quiet in early February.

Went here for the day, very nice in general. The beach is very close to the car park and close to the water as well--i'm sure on the weekend it gets crowded but I went during the week and it was not. I would go back...

Had a little extra time on a business trip so stopped by to dip my toes in the ocean. Weekday afternoon proved to be a quiet time in the park. Clean beaches and plenty of parking. Drive to the far north parking lot and walk out on the fishing jetty.

These types of state beaches are well organized , with $$ entry fee ( about 10$) but has plenty parking and pretty clean bathrooms and change rooms , areas for picnics, shelters , fishing docks - you can watch plenty of boats leave port and some Cruze ships , the beach is about 5 km long with walk trails and... I have been going to this State Park for over thirty years. It is a very clean and well kept beach. I feel safe and secure here. The bathrooms are clean and well kept as are the picnic tables and the grilling areas. This is a great place for families with small children.

I have wanted to visit many times, but it had another name. The new name honors the civil rights leaders who brought a "coloured beach" to segregationist South Florida in the 1940's and beyond. It has a lovely, unspoilt beach with charcoal barbecues and dining areas. It has a very nice restaurant with $1.99 sixteen ounce draft. THIS IS NOT... More

I was really disappointed with the beach at this park. The beach itself was very narrow and appears to have been eroded significantly as there was a steep ledge with a drop-off down to the rest of the beach. Worst of all the beach was covered with garbage and pieces of broken glass that made us feel unsafe to even... More

We went there when there was many functions and it was hard to find a parking spot. Also the lady who was taking the cover charge at the entrance was not very happy and quite abrupt.

We revisited recently and were surprised to see the park has changed it's name. We could tell friends "We are going to Lloyd's" but now we say we are going to "Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park". Huh? Still an amazing park but seems odd they changed the name knowing the history of the original naming. Google it. The... More
