What a great tour! Jill is an experienced guide and offers a wealth of knowledge on the local cuisines in Footscray. She even meets you at the station already with Banh Mi, very prepared and made it a great day/afternoon. Many thanks Jill:)

Being a 60 year old westie I thought knew Footscray but this tour thought my wife & I so much more. Jill takes you on a walking tour talking food, culture & history of the west. You stop at 3 eateries for a lovely feast of their cultural food & share stories. A fantastic gift to give any food lover. PS don’t eat breakfast before going, you get offered heaps of food. Well worth doing, thanks Jill.

Thanks for your positive comments. Footscray really is a great place for fantastic food, and we love to highlight this. You're right though, we do need to encourage attendees to only have a light breakfast (if at all)

A group of four Kiwis went to the Greek cooking class run by Pat and Jill not really knowing what to expect. It was fantastic. So much fun with a bit of cooking thrown in. Would thoroughly recommend. We will be back when we come back to this great city

We had the pleasure of attending this wonderful cooking class. Our class was Moroccan food. I have never made Moroccan food before and have only eaten it once prior to this class. I will be making it at home using the information and excellent teaching from this class. If you have the time, it is well worth doing the class. We had so much fun!! Pat and Julie are fantastic!!

My wife and I have been to Food Essence in Werribee many times, but there you watch some one cook and get tips and ideas. Spice Bazaar is 100% hands on and you do ALL the cooking and preparing with the wonderful Pat, your main guide, and Jill on hand to lead you through all the steps.
I loved that Pat gave you skill demonstrations to help you achieve the same standards as himself. It was also great to discover that he and Jill honed their skills by travelling the world to hone their skills and cultural knowledge of the food they helped us prepare. They showed a true love of food and Pat told some amazing stories that made the night not just about the food we cooked but a cultural experience as well.
The other great thing about the night was that I was expecting it to just be my wife and I preparing our own meal but instead everyone works in teams of 4. Shared responsibilities, shared experiences, shared dining. It was like being a contestant on Masterchef and everyone at our night were so friendly and cooperative but with a little bit of competitiveness it was amazing how quickly a bit of friendly banter developed. It brought everyone together and as we sat around the dining table we were so comfortable sharing our life stories. It made for a far greater night out than just doing your own thing.
We chose the Moroccan and Middle Eastern option and it was sensational. So much flavour from such a diverse range of spices, which they make themselves, and other ingredients we’d never used before. We made dips as a whole group, then prepped and cooked prawns, chicken pastries, chicken tagine, cous cous , a salad and poached pears and yoghurt. The work benches are professionally set up with all the recipes cooking equipment and ingredients needed within reach for each team. Pat would demonstrate techniques, give a rundown of the recipe steps and then leave you and your team to divide the tasks up to get the job done. Again it was like being in a Masterchef team challenge episode.
I couldn’t fault the experience. On top of what I’ve described, drinks were liberally offered all night,- wines to match the food (or beer) and water or juice was always within reach while cooking. And food safety was always an imperative with plenty of utensils and boards to swap out to avoid contamination.
It’s not just a great night out for local Melbournians (our group came from all parts) but something I would recommend for tourists looking for a foodie experience in a food Mecca like Melbourne. Just about every cuisine you can think of is on their list. They also offer a range of 3-4 hour foodie walking tours around different parts of Melbourne. It’s just a 15 minute train ride from Flinders St station to Middle Footscray station which is just a few minutes walk to Spice Bazaar. One of the great nights out. We will be back.

Great fun time with an enthusiastic teacher as we learned new preparation techniques whilst preparing curries from a variety of countries. Small class size gave an excellent opportunity to be fully involved in the preparation of our delicious meal.

Had SO much fun at the Curries from around the world cooking class. Fantastic teacher/host (Pat) who had great energy, enthusiasm and friendly. Pat gave great tips throughout the class, I learnt so much about preparing food.
Fantastic range of dishes and variety. Well planned and structured and good class size (think max 16). Made 2 entrees, 3 mains, 1 side and a dessert. We were rolling out completely satisfied! Class went for a solid 5 hours so well worth the money! Fantastic vibe and would highly recommend to others.

The pasta cooking class was incredible - made the daunting thought of making home made pasta extremely fun and accessible. Food was delicious, hosts were enthusiastic and knowledgable, wine pairings were superb! No faults, a wonderful way to spend the day - highly recommend!

I received a $120 voucher from good friends for my 70th Birthday and what a great gift idea! In a group of ten others, we prepared seven different dishes under expert guidance, at cooking benches, and then sat to enjoy them at the dining tables. It was great value for five hours that just flew.
My friends think of it as the gift that keeps on giving because now I have to demonstrate my new found skills so they can share in the fun!
