As a longtime visitor since 1971 I revisited on Nov 13 for a day just to examine the park and assess the damage from Irma. Kudos to the staff for their hard work and determination to make the best of a tragic situation as Irma...More
I came here after a long trip and finally found the beauty that I was longing for on my way to Key West. I really loved the water. It s a small area and great for a short stop to bathe in the water. In...More
I had not visited here pre-Irma, but what I saw this visit was still pretty amazing. I understand that the beach rehabilitation may limit access somewhat to the sand and water, but that is a small price to pay to keep this area available and...More
Beautiful park with lots of parking and water-front. Restrooms might need some work but nice place to swim and see nature. Nice vista view from top of old bridge. Bring water and lost of sunscreen. Nice alternative to Key West.
Now, don't get me wrong. It was ok. It wasn't a top 10 Florida Beach right now, no way. Beach is narrow, sometimes maybe only 20' deep. Lots of seaweed during the time we were there (November 24th 2018). Reasonably clean. Good view and could...More

If ever considering harvesting from any of the islands, please consult with a park ranger to see if the lobster season include the regions you plan to visit. Because many islands are recovering, some parts of the islands are considered "sanctuary" until recovery can be proven by local and state officials. Removing them from the ecosystem can greatly harm recovery and hinder the progress of the islands. However because you were nice enough to consider a ranger before casting a line, they can likely tell you where harvesting is permitted.

As far as I can tell everything on Calusa Beach is open. They put up new restrooms, showers and lockers. Of course you still can see some of the devastation, since the vegetation does not grow this fast. The south side (opposite side of Ocean) was still closed in May.
