By all means take the guided tour in the house and ride the shuttle around the gardens. The statues are gorgeous and gardens are perfectly manicured. The entire house and contents were donated so the guided tour gives much more explanation of all the contents.

We have lived in the area for many years and have not visited the mansion. I can tell you that it was far beyond any experience at a historical location we have ever had. The house, grounds and even the garage were jaw droppingly beautiful....More

Beautiful classic home and grounds. When touring the house you feel as though you were in a French period chateau. Well worth the entrance fee. A great add on if visiting Longwood gardens, only 8 miles away.

I don't know for sure but there is no food there. As I recall they do have tickets so I would imagine that they would allow you to go out and return. Best to confirm with them to be sure. Jo-Ann
